Unique Gift Ideas for Moms

I love a holiday or reason to celebrate as much as the next Pinterest Parent, but in the endless barage of holidays and calendar acknowledgements, it can be easy to overlook the truly meaningful days.

Mother’s Day is a rare occasion to really reflect on the contribution that mothers make to their families and communities.

And, it is an opportunity to really acknowledge the sisterhood of motherhood, and recognize that no matter what our parenting style or how many kids we have, we’re all united in our commitments to our family, and in our everyday struggles to give our best to our children.

Kitchen Gifts

While our Gifts for Bakers guide is perfect for the mom who loves to spend time in the kitchen, these kitchen gifts are more about making mom’s life more luxurious and enjoyable.

I love love love my DeLonghi Lattisma latte maker. It makes amazing espresso-based drinks, like lattes, Americanos, etc – at the touch of a button. It’s like having a speciality coffee shop, right in your kitchen. (And unlike other espresso makers, there’s no need to grind espresso beans or intense clean-up after every cup. I use these re-usable Nespresso pods to cut down on waste.)

Sara Beth’s Preserves are perfect for topping scones, toast or muffins with. I actually gave my daughter Sara Beth’s Jam for Christmas and it was one of her favorite gifts. (Sara Beth’s is the NYC restaurant that made Sunday brunches a thing, so if you’re shopping for a NYC or brunch fan, this is a good bet.)

If your mom is lucky enough to have hand-written recipes from her relatives, scanning them to be made into a customized tea towel is a thoughtful way to allow her to display this treasure (while keeping the original safe). (You can alternatively get this customized recipe plate which would be cute for serving that recipe on – a plateful of chocolate chip cookies with the hand-written recipe beautifully discovered underneath.)

There are also some really exciting subscription boxes for bakers or just those who would enjoy a special treat being delivered to them once a month! I might actually order one of these for myself.

Self-Care

It may seem cliche, but most moms I know won’t spend time or money on self-care for themselves, even if they recognize the need for it. Treat them with these unique pampering gifts!

Hers is a line of body, skin, hair and sexual wellness products backed by science. If the mom you are shopping for is dealing with skin or hair issues, I highly recommend ordering a few of these products to treat her and help her gain that confidence back! I’ve been using the shampoo, conditioner and Biotin Gummies to help restore my hair after several years of breastfeeding and some stressful events that have taken a toll on my hair. I’m still in the beginning stages, but my friend has had amazing results with the gummies and has regrown her hair where it was thinning due to her constantly pulling her hair back into a ponytail.

This wooden bath caddy is a great option to encourage mom to take a nice long bath and relax. I would also pair this gift with a great book and mom’s favorite wine or tea – there are spots for all of those in the caddy – as well as a gorgeous bath bomb or bubble bath. There are so many wonderful subscription boxes out there, catered to specific interests and also for a variety of gift-buying budgets.

Even my sommelier friend, Stacey, loves her monthly wine delivery from Winc. Or, if the person you’re shopping for prefers cocktails, Shaker and Spoon is a highly-rated monthly cocktail subscription.

I adore the concept behind Once Upon a Book Club. It’s a monthly subscription service that delivers a book plus 3-5 wrapped gifts tagged with specific page numbers. The idea is that you open the themed gift once you’ve read the corresponding page. You can contact the curator if you want to know the title beforehand, and the box also comes with a 5×7 quote print featuring a quote from the selected book, discussion questions and read-a-long dates for live discussion and gift opening with fellow readers.

For the crafty Pinterest mom, this Craft Subscription Box from Pop Shop America lets her try her hand at various craft projects. Moms can also swap out that month’s project boxes for any of Pop Shop America’s other craft boxes, so she never gets a box she’s less than thrilled about.

Thoughtful Gift Certificates

Gift certificates can be a hot topic when it comes to gift giving, but there are a few that many of the moms I spoke with all agreed they’d appreciate:

Gift certificate for housecleaning from a professional service
Gift certificate for car wash and detailing
Gift certificate for a favorite restaurant, coffee shop or spa (some moms said they’d prefer a take-out or delivery restaurant to save them on days they don’t feel like cooking)

Active moms might appreciate a gift certificate to an experience like knife or axe-throwing, or creative moms might like a cupcake decorating or pottery class (complete with promises for childcare during the class times).

If childcare is an issue, a thoughtful Paint-by-Numbers Painting would be great for a creative mom! (Plus, you can get the painting custom made with one of her favorite pictures.)
