Seasoned Dinner Rolls Recipe
If you have an everything but the bagel seasoning fanatic in your household, they are going to go wild for these everything bagel dinner rolls.
My daughter is obsessed with EBTB seasoning. We don’t have a Trader Joe’s close to us, so I’ve had to add the seasoning to our Subscribe and Save so that we get a monthly replenishment of it (along with our toilet paper, laundry detergent, toothpaste and other necessities).
I’ve even developed our own copycat Everything But the Bagel seasoning recipe, which is cheaper to make but honestly, sometimes it’s easier to just have it arrive at our door rather than try to make it as fast as she can eat it!
(I swear, she must be adding it to her water for how quickly we go through jars of this stuff!)
These fluffy, tender dinner rolls feature a lightly golden top seasoned generously with the nutty, garlicky and onion flavor of everything bagel seasoning. The lightly sweet dinner rolls beautifully complement the tangy, savory topping of EBTB seasoning, allowing them to pair wonderfully with just about any soup you can imagine and make them a great base for sliders.
Personally, I tend to make these rolls on Sunday for a yummy addition to our more decadent Sunday suppers, then tuck them into lunch boxes as a side for thermos-filled soups or turn them into mini sandwiches as a flavorful alternative to plain old sandwich bread.
Everything Bagel Dinner Rolls Variations:
- Since making this recipe, I’ve now stirred additional EBTB seasoning into the bread batter so that the flavor is even more pronounced through the bread roll in addition to being sprinkled on top.
- Garlic Herb Version: Swap the everything seasoning for our homemade garlic herb seasoning.
- Everything Honey Rolls: Brush with honey before baking for a sweeter, glossy finish.
- Cheddar-Onion Topping: Sprinkle the rolls with finely shredded sharp cheddar and a pinch of dried minced onion.
- Spicy Everything Rolls: Add a small pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the seasoning blend.
- Everything Bagel Hawaiian Rolls: use our homemade Hawaiian dinner rolls as a base for this recipe and garnish with everything bagel seasoning, as described in the recipe below.

Everything Bagel Dinner Rolls FAQs
Can I use active dry yeast instead of instant yeast? Yes, bloom the active dry yeast in the warm water with a pinch of sugar for about 5 to 7 minutes, then proceed with the recipe.
My dough is very sticky. Should I add more flour? This dough should remain a bit sticky. Add only enough flour to make it workable, but avoid exceeding 3 cups or the rolls will bake up dense.
Can I make the dough ahead of time? You can mix and knead the dough, place it in the fridge after the first rise, and shape it the next day. Allow the rolls to come to room temperature and rise again before baking.
How do I keep the rolls soft after baking? Let them cool for a few minutes, then cover with a clean kitchen towel. Trapping a bit of steam helps preserve softness.
How to store leftover everything bagel dinner rolls: Allow the rolls to cool completely, then place them in an airtight container or a resealable bag. They keep well at room temperature for up to two days, or refrigerate them for up to four days.
Can everything bagel dinner rolls be frozen? Yes, freeze fully baked and cooled rolls in a ziptop freezer bag or airtight container for up to one month and rewarm them briefly in the oven.
(This set of freezer containers is a crazy bargain.)

Kitchen Tools You May Find Helpful
- Measuring Cups and Spoons
- Mixing Bowl
- Wooden Spoon or Spatula <– I like these spatulas because they are one solid piece and don’t have removable heads for bacteria to get trapped underneath. Plus they are heat-resistant and have a lifetime warranty
- 8″ x 8″ Casserole Dish
- Pastry brush <– I like these one-piece pastry brushes for the same reasons I mentioned above for the spatulas (and they also have a lifetime warranty)

How to Make Everything Bagel Dinner Rolls
In a large bowl, combine the flour, white sugar, salt and instant yeast.
Stir well to combine dry ingredients and then make a well in the centre.

Pour the warm water into the well and add the butter and egg.
Stir well to combine and form a soft dough.

Knead the dough by hand until it appears elastic and forms a soft well ball that pulls away from the sides of the bowl, adding up to one cup more flour as needed.
(This is a stickier dough – it will not form the same cohesive ball as a harder, proofed dough. Avoid the temptation to add more than 3 cups of flour.)
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and a clean kitchen towel and place in a warm area of your kitchen to rise for 2 hours.

Once risen, punch down the dough and divide into 9 equal balls of dough.
Grease a 8” x 8” casserole dish and place the balls of dough equal distance apart.

Place the plastic wrap and kitchen towel back over the casserole dish and allow to rise again for 1 1/2 hours.
Preheat oven to 375F
Brush the risen rolls with the egg white and sprinkle with Everything Bagel Seasoning.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, until rolls are golden brown on top and cooked through.
Allow to cool for 2 minutes in the casserole dish before attempting to remove.
