DIY Rudolph Wood Slice Ornament Craft

Every year, one of our advent calendar activities is spending an afternoon making our own Christmas ornaments.

This year, we bought a package of unfinished wood slice ornaments to paint as one of our Advent activities and we’ve been having so much fun coming up with different ideas and designs. I love the rustic charm these ornaments lend to anything you make with them – and I especially love mixing it with glittery elements for a fun contrast.

These Rudolph ornaments make a cute stand-alone ornament, or you can make all nine of Santa’s Reindeer. These wood slice ornaments can be hung on a tree or turned into a cute reindeer bunting banner.

If you want to give these Rudolph ornaments a 3D effect, you can use a red glittery pompom instead of the red glitter foam for the nose.

Tip: if you want to add a 3D element to this craft, use a red glittery pompom for the nose instead of the red glitter foam.

How to Make a Rudolph Wood Slice Ornament

Remove the twine that comes on the wood slice.

Trace the shape of a reindeer antler to the back of the brown glitter foam. Cut out the antler and use it to trace a second antler.

Glue the antlers to the back of the ornament, about a finger width apart.

Cut out a circle of the red glitter foam and attach to the front of the ornament, in the center.

Use your paint pens to draw on two reindeer eyes.

Allow paint to try before restringing the ornament and hanging.

  1. Love these ornaments – and I’d like to have my class make them. Was there an SVG file you used for the antlers? Or a template? I love how they look and haven’t found anything similar.
