Turkey and Swiss Sliders Recipe

There is no better use for leftover turkey than a next-day turkey sandwich… except for perhaps this Turkey and Swiss Slider recipe, which elevates your basic day-after sandwich into a party-worthy appetizer or main dish.

My daughter LOVES sliders, aka, sandwich casseroles, and they are a mainstay in our parties or get-togethers with friends since they are so easy to make and such crowd-pleasers!

To make these easy turkey and cheese sliders on Hawaiian rolls, simply:

  1. Slice a sheet of sandwich rolls through the middle;
  2. Layer shredded turkey and Swiss cheese slices on top;
  3. Melt butter and dijon mustard together, then pour over the sliders and sprinkle with poultry seasoning;
  4. Bake until sliders are golden and crispy on the outside yet still buttery and melt-in-your-mouth (and the cheese is all melted, too)

See? Super simple yet incredibly decadent and delicious. And if you do end up having leftovers, they are still great in your kids’ lunchboxes the day after.

Turkey Swiss Sliders Recipe Variations:

  • Use garlic butter instead of regular butter
  • Add caramelized onions between the turkey and cheese, or leftover roasted veggies
  • Swap half the Swiss for mozzarella cheese for a more melty, cheesy slider
  • Stir a spoonful of honey into the butter and mustard mixture for a hint of sweetness.
  • Add thin slices of roasted or candied jalapeños for gentle heat.
  • Spread leftover cranberry jam on the slider buns before layering on the ham and cheese
  • Replace the poultry seasoning with other favored seasonings, like ranch or everything bagel seasoning.
  • Add a thin layer of pesto before layering on the turkey.

Turkey Swiss Sliders FAQs

Can I use deli turkey instead of shredded turkey? Yes, though the texture will be slightly firmer than shredded, cooked turkey. You can add in layers, fold the slices or even slice them up before adding to the sliders.

What type of rolls are best for sliders? Soft pull-apart rolls or Hawaiian-style sheets work best because they absorb the butter mixture without falling apart. (Check our our recipe for Homemade Hawaiian Rolls.)

Can I prep these ahead of time? Assemble the sliders up to the butter step, then refrigerate for up to 2 days. Add the butter mixture just before baking so the rolls don’t become soggy.

How do I prevent the tops from browning too quickly? Tent the pan with foil during the last 5 minutes if needed. Remove the foil at the end to maintain a crisp surface.

Can I freeze the sliders? Freeze after baking and cooling completely by storing in airtight freezer bags or your favorite freezer containers for up to 2 months. (This set of freezer containers is a crazy bargain.)
