Funfetti Fruit Dip Recipe

Today’s easy dessert dip is a fun way to enjoy all of the flavors of a funfetti cake with cream cheese frosting without the hassle of actually baking a cake!

To make it, we heat-treat a simple boxed funfetti cake mix (to make it save to consume without baking) and then mix it with cream cheese, milk, vanilla extract and Cool Whip for a sweet, tangy and silky smooth dip that is perfect for dipping fruit or mini cookies in.

(Homemade Dunkaroo dip, anyone?)

The whipped texture of this easy funfetti cake batter dip is a cross between a light and airy mousse and a thick frosting.

Serve this irresistible cake dip at parties or scoop into single-portion containers for a fun lunchbox treat for kids’ to dip fruit into.

Funfetti Cake Dip Variations:

  • Use a different flavor of cake mix for a different flavor profile
  • Swap out half of the cream cheese for vanilla Greek yogurt for a lighter, tangier dip
  • Add 1/2 teaspoon of lemon or orange zest for a touch of citrus flavor
  • Fold in crushed OREO cookies for a cookies-and-cream twist
  • Dye the dip or swap out the sprinkles to suit a variety of different occasions or holidays

How to Serve Cake Batter Dip:

  • Use as a cookie sandwich filling by spreading between two graham crackers or vanilla wafer cookies
  • Serve with dippables like graham crackers, vanilla wafers, fruit, pretzels, etc.
  • Use as a thick frosting on cupcakes (just be sure to use a spatula, not a piping bag)
  • Or, simply serve with a spoon

Is it safe to eat unbaked cake mix? Since we are heat-treating the cake mix by microwaving it, we are killing any potential harmful bacteria in the flour.

How to store cake batter dip: This edible cake batter dip can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

I personally do not recommend freezing this dip due to the cream cheese.

Can I make this cake batter dip dairy-free? You can use dairy-free cream cheese and whipped topping, but be sure to choose ones with similar fat content to maintain the same texture.
