Fairy House Craft

Glitter. Hearts. Fairies.

What more could a little girl want in a simple 15 minute craft?!

My daughter is obsessed with these battery operated LED lights that we purchased for some crafts, so we are now trying to come up with a bunch of fun, unique ways to incorporate them into our craft plans.

These super simple light up house lanterns look super cute on display and then become so whimsical when you turn on the candle and turn off the lights. The warm glow from these little fairy houses is simply magical. It would be really cute to make a variety of these little houses and have a little glowing village on display.

We kept our house design really simple so that you can customize yours however you want! You can add stickers, paint the paper, add adhesive gems, or even add some little fairy figurines. Placing a figurine inside of the house would create a cool silhouette when the candle is on.

Tip: I highly recommend grabbing a couple of these sturdy plastic lunch trays. I use these for almost all of our craft or kitchen activities, as well as in our Montessori practical life activities. Ours have lasted for over 6 years and are still going strong, plus they are so great for containing messes and allowing the kids to set a project to the side while it dries (or if you have to clear off the table for supper).

How to Make a Fairy House Lantern

Print the templates onto the cardstock and cut out as indicated.

Keep the small heart template cut out aside and trace the other heart pattern on a colored craft paper.

Trace the long part of the roof on cardstock paper and the 2 even parts on the glittery foam sheet.

Trace the house layout on thick craft paper. Place the house cut out on a flat surface an grab the small heart template.

Trace the small heart pattern on the house layout, making sure to trace it right in the middle of the front side of the house layout.

Carefully cut out the traced heart pattern from the house layout.

Now take the big heart cut out traced on colored craft paper. This heart pattern is slightly bigger than the heart cut out on the house. Apply glue around the side of the big heart.

Carefully place the glued side of the heart on the heart hole of the house, to cover it. Press the sides to make sure that the heart is attached nicely.

Fold the house layout along the dashed lines as shown in the template.

Apply glue along the thin folded part and attach it to the part next to it to close the sides of the house. The house base is ready. Time to make the roof.

Grab the roof cut outs prepared earlier. Fold the long piece of the roof cut out (this is the roof base) into half and glue the 2 glittery sheets on both half parts of the roof base.

Apply glue along the top end of the house structure and place the roof on the top to complete the house. Press the glued and attached parts to make sure that the house and the roof are joined nicely.

Turn on the LED candle and place the house on the top of it. Looks adorable and magical doesn’t it?
