I’m so exited to share about this cat sewing craft with you.
If you love cats and like to sew like me you will love this craft.
I have three cats but I don’t have an orange one so I thought I would make one.
This craft is perfect to turn in to a backpack charm or a keychain. This would also make a great gift for the cat lover in your life. Have fun!

Sewing Tips
Whenever we need to cut out intricate shapes from felt, I always grab some freezer paper and use the freezer paper trick to cut out our felt shapes, but good-quality felt and a sharp pair of scissors also makes all the difference.
To make this cat stuffie craft, you just need to know how to do a basic whip stitch and a blanket stitch. (However, you can just use a whip stitch on the sides if the blanket stitch proves to be too tricky. The links above are to my friend Maggie’s channel and they are perfect for kids learning how to sew.)

- Felt
- Pencil or fabric marker
- Scissors
- Freezer paper and iron (if using the freezer paper trick)
- Needle
- Thread
- Cotton Batting, optional

How to Make a Cat Sewing Project
Select felt fabrics for the cat plush and trace the patterns on the selected felts from the provided template. Cut out the traced patterns nicely.
Grab the head and the eye cutouts; and prepare needle with black thread. Stitch the ye cutouts on the head using black thread and also trace the mouth pattern below the eyes with a fabric marker or pencil. Stitch along the traced mouth lines. I did simple back stitch.
Prepare needle with matching thread to attach the inner ear cutouts (small triangles) and the nose (small circular shape) cutout with the head pattern.
Grab the lower body part and stitch the scallop edged pattern with it. Take any one of the tails cutouts and attach the medium semi-circular shape on the curvy tip of the tail. Make sure to use matching thread while stitching any pattern.
Done stitching? Now grab the back pattern of the cat (the base) and place it on a flat surface. Hold the 2 tail cutouts together by keeping the stitched one on the top. Place the straight side of the tail on the base pattern by overlapping a small amount from that end.
Place the lower body pattern on the base pattern on the bottom side.
Now place the head cutout on the top side of the base pattern, this should slightly overlap the lower body part.
Prepare needle and thread. Start to stitch around the sides of the felt patterns to attach them together. Do flat blanket stitch around the sides and running stitch to join the overlapped part between the head and lower body cutout.
Keep a small opening for stuffing the cat plushie. Keep the needle and thread attached while stuffing.
You can use cotton for stuffing the cat plush or you can use scrape felts as well.
Stuff the felt cat through the small opening.
Once the stuffing is done, stitch the small opening to secure the stuffing. Tie a knot or two and then draw the needle inside the plush. Draw the needle outside again and cut off extra thread.
