Coleslaw Dressing
Today’s simple Coleslaw Dressing is creamy, tangy and slightly sweet. Made with just 5 ingredients and incredibly versatile as a salad dressing, sandwich spread or veggie dip.

Coleslaw Dressing Recipe
Growing up, we didn’t eat a lot of salads in my house and my limited exposure to salads outside of the home didn’t do much to convince me that I was missing anything.
It wasn’t until years later when I was trying to do better for my own family that I became determined to find salads that were both delicious and nutritious that I stumbled upon how delicious coleslaw can be.
While I will always love my Homemade Chickfila Coleslaw recipe, it is quite sweet and contains white sugar, which I think is fine in moderation but I wanted a slightly more healthful option as a standby.
This easy 5-ingredient coleslaw recipe is the perfect option if you want a well-balanced coleslaw dressing that is creamy, tangy, lightly sweet and features the earthiness of celery seeds which gives coleslaw dressing their characteristic black speckled appearance.
This easy coleslaw dressing can also be used as a sandwich spread; used as a dressing for other salads (like a fresh garden salad, chicken and romaine salad, etc); or used as a veggie dip. It can even be used as a unique dip for French fries!
I usually swap out half of the mayo for Greek yogurt, but for the recipe below I call for exclusively mayonnaise so you can try it as-is and then decide if you want to make the swap yourself.
I am of the belief that even if a salad dressing is a bit indulgent, if you’re using it to make veggies more enjoyable, then that’s good enough. If a bit of mayonnaise and honey gets your children to enjoy eating cabbage and get all of the health benefits related to that, then that’s a win in my books.
Homemade Coleslaw Dressing Swaps:
- Swap out the honey for sugar, maple syrup or agave syrup
- Swap Lemon juice or white vinegar for the apple cider vinegar
- Add different seasonings – like dill, ranch, etc, for a unique twist
- Swap Greek yogurt for half (or all) of the mayo called for in the recipe
How to store coleslaw dressing: Store dressing in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
Once you have made a coleslaw with the dressing, it should be consumed within 2-3 days to avoid being soggy.
