This homemade Chickfila coleslaw recipe is everything a good coleslaw recipe should be: tangy, slightly sweet, crunchy and creamy. It's only 6 ingredients and takes less than 5 minutes to whip up.

Chickfila Coleslaw Recipe

For years, I’ve made Gwenyth Paltrow’s Coleslaw recipe almost every week for an easy lunch side salad. But two years ago I first made this Chickfila Coleslaw recipe for the first time and it quickly replaced her recipe as my absolute favorite coleslaw.

This homemade coleslaw recipe is everything a good coleslaw recipe should be: tangy, slightly sweet, crunchy and creamy. It’s only 6 ingredients and takes less than 5 minutes to whip up.

But my favorite thing about this recipe? It tastes even better the day after you make it. I make it almost every Sunday and eat it all week long. The cabbage mixture stays crisp and crunchy and the dressing never stops tasting amazing.

My copycat Chickfila coleslaw recipe varies a bit from Chickfila’s official recipe:

  • we swapped out the white distilled vinegar for apple cider vinegar, giving this coleslaw a more rounded tang and a bit more depth of flavor
  • I personally reduce the white sugar by half – from 1/4 cup to 2 Tablespoons. For me, that’s plenty but you can add the full 1/4 cup if you’d like
  • we use English-style mustard in place of dry mustard powder, giving a bit of sharpness to this recipe (but again, you can use the 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder instead)

How long does Chickfila coleslaw last in the fridge? This recipe is the perfect prep-ahead recipe as it stays crunchy and flavorful for up to 7 days if kept covered in the fridge.

If you want a healthier coleslaw, swap out half of the mayonnaise for Greek Yogurt and replace the white sugar with honey. You can also add additional veggies, like chopped broccoli.

How to Make Chickfila Coleslaw at Home

In a large bowl, stir or whisk together the mayonnaise and sugar until sugar appears to be mostly dissolved.

Stir in the vinegar, mustard and salt, to taste.

Add the coleslaw mix and toss to coat completely in the coleslaw dressing.

Refrigerate overnight for best flavor, but it can be served immediately as well.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons White Sugar*
  • 4 teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon English-style Mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 6 cups Shredded Coleslaw Mix

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, stir or whisk together the mayonnaise and sugar until sugar appears to be mostly dissolved.
  2. Stir in the vinegar, mustard and salt, to taste.
  3. Add the coleslaw mix and toss to coat completely in the coleslaw dressing.
  4. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

*Use 1/4 cup of white sugar for a more authentic Chickfila coleslaw.

The original recipe also uses white vinegar in place of the Apple Cider Vinegar we use, and mustard powder in place the English-style mustard.
