Welcome to the Sugar, Spice & Glitter’s Kids’ Kitchen page.
It is so important to empower children and give them opportunities to participate in food preparation and cooking. Everything from learning how to use a butter knife to independently baking a batch of cookies can be found via this page.
Every opportunity that you give your children in the kitchen helps build confidence, independence, and capability, but it’s important to start out within your comfort zone so that you don’t end up hovering, taking over, or freaking out. Messes are going to happen, ingredients may get forgotten, and the kids just might eat some raw eggs in the process. But I can truly say that the confidence that your child will build, in addition to those lifelong kitchen skills that so many adults are now lacking, will be worth any spills or cringe-worthy moments.
Every week, I share at least one recipe or activity that is straight from the kids’ kitchen. These are recipes or projects that are geared towards children’s abilities and interests. Often, our science experiments are also conducted in the kitchen, too! If you’re not already subscribed to our e-mail newsletter, sign up here!
One of my favourite projects on this blog was our 31 Days in the Kids Kitchen series, which was a collaborative effort between myself and 31 other kids’ activity bloggers to bring you two fun recipes or activities every day, culminating in 62 awesome ideas to inspire and instill confidence in your child’s kitchen abilities.
