DIY Tissue Paper Flower Wreath Craft

I have a little seasonal wreath collection that I switch out throughout the year, and just about every time that I do, my daughter begs to make a wreath for her bedroom door.

Why should the front door get all of the pretty wreath love?

This tissue paper wreath was such a fun project for her to make and customize. Kids can make as many or as few tissue paper flowers as they’d like, choose their own color scheme and add additional embellishments (like their names or a welcome message).

I think it would also make a cute gift for Mother’s Day or a gift for a grandparent or loved one, especially if they are in need of some cheering up. They will be able to enjoy this bright collection of blooms for way longer than any fresh cut bouquet.

If you’re making this tissue paper wreath with a variety of ages, you can assemble some tissue paper flowers ahead of time for younger kids or let them just bunch up little squares of tissue paper to make “crumpled flowers.”

If you want to make your tissue paper wreath more sturdy, you can skip the paper plate base and use a floral foam wreath base instead.

You can also use our free paper flower template to make these tissue paper flowers to use in different crafts – not just this wreath, such as:

  • Attach a magnet to the back
  • Attach to a picture frame for a sweet gift idea
  • Add to a painting for a 3D touch
  • Glue to a cup or empty container for a pretty, customized pencil holder
  • Glue in a pattern to a cardboard shape for a pretty piece of decor

Tip: for a sturdier wreath, swap out the paper plate base for a wire or foam wreath base.

How to Make a Tissue Paper Flower Wreath

Cut the center out from a paper plate.

Paint the paper plate green and allow to dry.

Meanwhile, download the flower template. Print and cut out.

Trace the petals, fringe and leaf shapes onto your choice of tissue paper and cut out.

Make small fringe cuts to the edges of the fringe.

To make the flowers, start by creating the flower “stamin” by looping a bit of floral wire and adding a crumpled piece of tissue paper to the top.

Wrap the crumbled tissue paper with a second piece of tissue paper and then secure using a piece of floral tape. (As shown.)

Wrap one of the fringed pieces of tissue paper around the stamin and then secure with floral tape. Add petals all around the fringe and secure each layer with floral tape. Keep adding layers of petals until the flower is as full as you’d like.

Play around with different sizes, colors and designs until you reach your desired number of flowers.

Snip the wire off the bottom of the flowers.

Experiment with how you’d like to arrange the flowers on the wreath and when you’re happy with your design, glue the leaves and flowers in place.
