My daughter’s favorite dessert by far is the humble chocolate donut, but I decided to have a bit of fun and whip up some S’mores Donuts with marshmallow topping as a special end-of-summer treat!
Chocolate S’mores Donut Recipe
Every Sunday morning, my girl and I hang out in our pj’s, sipping coffee and eating donuts in bed, sometimes watching a bit of Netflix but always just relaxing and enjoying a carefree morning without anywhere to be. On busy weeks I just grab those mini powdered donuts you can get at the grocery store, but when I have a bit of time, I like to whip up something special!
The last time I made donuts, I made a homemade caramel-coconut topping for a decadent Samoas Donut recipe, so I couldn’t very well make plain chocolate donuts as my follow-up.
Our 10-minutes S’mores Cake is one of our most popular dessert recipes so I thought it would be fun to bring those campfire flavors to breakfast time with this super easy and fun S’mores Donut recipe.
I’ve tried a few different donut pans and am preferring my silicone donut pan these days. It’s just so much easier to pop the donuts out rather than wedging a knife into a metal pan when donuts get stuck.
While I do love making donuts from scratch (like my delicious New Orleans-style Beignets), when it comes to cake donuts I try to keep things simple and just grab a boxed cake mix. I’m more likely to actually make donuts from scratch when I give myself permission to use a mix, rather than hitting up a donut shop out of convenience.
Of course, you can use your own favorite chocolate cake recipe instead of using a mix – either way, you still end up with delicious, crumbly cake donuts topped with a sweet and sticky marshmallow toppings and a sprinkling of mini chocolate chips and mini marshmallows.
I love how pretty these S’mores Donuts turned out – and they are a super fun way to treat your family, whether you actually eat them at breakfast, or save them for a movie night treat!

Preheat oven to 350F.
Lightly grease your donut pan and set aside.
Make your chocolate cake mix according to package directions and fill the donut pan indentation halfway with the cake mix.
Bake for 15-18 minutes (until the donuts are firm and fully formed) and allow to cool in the pan for one minute before turning out onto the cooling rack.
Heat the Marshmallow fluff for 10-20 seconds in a microwave safe bowl.
Use an offset spatula to spread the melted marshmallow fluff onto the donuts. If it’s too sticky, feel free to add a teaspoon of coconut oil or butter to loosen up the marshmallow.
