Simpson’s Donuts
Today’s raspberry glazed donut is inspired by that classic do’h nut that is absolutely ubiquitous in Simpsons’ episodes. A Vibrant Pink Glazed Biscuit Donut with rainbow sprinkles perfect for any occasion.
Raspberry Glazed Sprinkle Donut Recipe
Ella and I first tasted these Simpsons-inspired donuts at Universal Studios where you can buy their jumbo-sized donuts that were literally bigger than her head… and then when she was training in Montreal, we also found a donut shop called Homer’s that made a decadent assortment of donuts, including a glazed Simpson-inspired donut.
So it was about time that we made our own version to share inspired by the Lard Lad’s creations made famous by the show.
I’ll be honest, my daughter has not yet been allowed to watch the Simpson’s. I don’t allow Full House either. I grew up watching both, and kind of thought that parents who banned The Simpson’s were crazy… and now I’m that crazy parent.
My hesitation is that I don’t like humor that makes fun of other people, and I don’t like shows where children hide things from grown-ups… and then learn literally nothing and continue to do it episode after episode.
I think making fun of other people is the lowest form of humour – it’s fine as a one off, but if you don’t know how to be funny without making fun of other people, then that’s an issue for me.
I want my child to be funny without making others the butt of a joke. And, honestly, now that she’s 13, I think I’ve succeeded. She’s actually funny and no one’s feelings are hurt in the process. Maybe we’ll watch an episode, maybe we won’t, but we can definitely enjoy these Simpsons-inspired donuts, regardless.
Tips for the best biscuit donuts:
- stretch the donut before frying and make the donut hole wider to get the best shape and prevent them from being too thick
- keep oil temperature at 350F – use a candy thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature. Too low and they will soak up the oil, too high and they will burn or overcook on the outside while not fully cooking on the inside
- store at room temperature in an airtight container (if you store in the fridge, the glaze will soften at room temperature)
- enjoy within 2 days – this will be easy because they will disappear quickly!
Should I refrigerate glazed donuts? If you will realistically eat the whole batch within 2-3 days, you can keep the donuts out at room temperature. However, if your home runs warmer, this could cause the glaze to melt.
What is raspberry glaze made out of? Our easy raspberry donut glaze is made out of raspberry flavor extract, powdered icing sugar (sometimes called confectioner’s sugar), cream or milk, and a bit of pink food coloring to really bring out a vibrant pink color. The food coloring is completely optional and you can make the raspberry extract from scratch if you follow the instructions on our strawberry donuts recipe (below).
How do I refresh a glazed donut? If your last couple donuts have gotten stale before you’ve been able to enjoy them, you can refresh them slightly by placing in the microwave for 15 seconds before enjoying.

Set each fried donut on the cooling rack to allow excess oil to drip off.
Once all donuts have been fried, turn off the heat for the oil.

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect happy hour spot, and I think I’ve finally found it. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was going to love this place. It’s got a laid-back yet lively atmosphere, and the drink deals are fantastic. I ordered a gin and tonic, and it was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The food was just as impressive – we shared some nachos, and they were loaded with cheese and all the fixings. The crowd was a good mix of locals and visitors, and the service was quick and friendly. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy great drinks, and not feel like you’re being rushed out the door. If you’re in the mood for a great happy hour experience, this is a spot you’ll want to check out. You can see their happy hour specials here: https://whitehorsetavern1880.com/happy-hours/
