A delicious and filling take on a classic Greek Salad, this Greek Spinach Salad incorporates spinach and avocado along with traditional Greek salad ingredients for a meal-sized version of this comforting classic.

This Greek Spinach Salad is fresh, filling, creamy (thanks to the avocados) and has a satisfying hit of saltiness from the olives and feta and an earthy-acidic depth of flavor from the homemade dressing.

Greek Spinach Salad Recipe

Greek salad is one of my favorite lunch time options, but personally I can’t eat enough of it to make it a full meal so I usually have to serve it along with something else.

Adding a generous amount of spinach and some chopped avocados to a classic greek salad elevates this dish from side dish to a full plate meal.

This Greek Spinach Salad is fresh, filling, creamy (thanks to the avocados) and has a satisfying hit of saltiness from the olives and feta and an earthy-acidic depth of flavor from the homemade dressing. I also love the contrast of the crunchy cucumbers, tomatoes and olives against the soft spinach and avocado. The contrast is really what makes this salad work for me, as it prevents it from becoming too monotonous (which I think is my issue with a classic Greek salad – it’s just all crunch!)

Unlike some salads using avocado, this salad can be enjoyed for a couple of days as the dressing prevents the avocado from browning. (However, 2 days is really the max before the spinach gets too soggy for my liking.)

While I kept my ingredients pretty classic apart from the avocado and spinach, you can switch up any of the ingredients called for in this recipe to suit your own preferences. My daughter loves red onions and bell peppers – and while red onions are classic in a Greek Salad, I can’t stand them raw and always skip them.

(A hint if you want to add red onions but don’t want the acidity to overwhelm the rest of the salad: soak the red onions in water as you’re chopping up the rest of the ingredients and it will mellow out the harsh bite of the onions, making them a lot more palatable.)
