This “Dirty Dr Pepper Cocktail” was one that I made often as when working at a Greek restaurant and funny enough, contains no Dr. Pepper! This is the first cocktail recipe I ever shared on Sugar, Spice and Glitter and since then we’ve shared dozens more. Check out our full collection of cocktail recipes here.
Amaretto and Coke Cocktail
This Dirty Dr Pepper Cocktail tastes pretty similar to a Dr. Pepper but is actually made with a combination of liqueurs and Coca-Cola. I’ve also made it with half beer and half coke, with the liqueurs poured in, but I personally prefer it without the beer. (Especially for serving to guests, when you don’t want to surprise them with an overly strong drink.)
This is a fun drink for summer barbecues as you can prepare a big pitcher for guests to self-serve from. I’ve provided both the individual measurements for a single cocktail, and the measurements for a pitcher.
I often order my liquor from Drizly because they have a quick delivery time (sometimes within 40 minutes – usually within the hour) and no expensive mark-ups. Purchasing from them supports local retailers, too. You can order the Amaretto for this recipe here, and the Cinnamon Whiskey here.
If you’re a huge fan of Dr Pepper, you may like our Dr Pepper Hot Corn Dip or our Instant Pot Dr Pepper Pulled Pork. (These recipes actually contain Dr Pepper – unlike this cocktail!)

How to Make a Dirty Dr Pepper Cocktail
For a single cocktail, fill a glass with ice and pour in the Amaretto, cinnamon alcohol and coke.
(If using beer, add an equal amount of beer as coke.)
For a full pitcher of Dr Pepper Cocktails, mix together 1/2 cup Amaretto, 1/2 cup cinnamon alcohol (Goldschlager or Fireball) and 3 cups Coca-Cola.
Add the ice to individual glasses before serving to avoid watering down the cocktails.

So there’s no Dr Pepper in this? Why doesn’t the Dirty Dr. Pepper
recipe call for that instead of cola?
It’s called “Dirty Doctor Pepper” because it tastes exactly like Dr Pepper. You could definitely try replacing the plain soda with Dr Pepper. I always have Coca-Cola on hand but I don’t usually have Dr Pepper.
I gotta say for myself, I did not care for this. I adore my diet Dr Peppers and this (to me) tasted *nothing* like a Dr Pepper. It just mostly tasted like cinnamon.
I’m sorry you didn’t care for it, thank you for being kind in your feedback.
This comment is deleted due to bullying and using an offensive slur. Hopefully, my fellow Canadian will grow up one day.. but for now he should go touch grass.
For those wondering why it is called Dr Pepper instead of Coke is because the drink without Fireball is called the Dr Pepper shot…It tastes just like Dr Pepper hence the name.
Thank you for the clarification – appreciate it!
This looks so good! What a great treat to make for friends!
Thanks, Suzanne!
Thanks for sharing! How far ahead of time can I make it?
Oh, great question. You can mix the cocktail in advance if you keep it in an airtight container – but I wouldn’t recommend more than 24 hours in advance.
This was the drink of my 20’s, but we did the amaretto as a drop shot and called it the Dr Pepper drop shot. At that time, this was our favorite drink.
Gosh, I remember drop shot drinks… well, barely. I hope this one measures up to your old favourite!
Anyway, thank you. You have reminded me of a part of my memory. Wow, so nostalgic about the days enjoying it.

A clever combination of liqueurs and Coca-Cola creates the Dirty Dr Pepper Cocktail, a fun and nostalgic beverage that tastes like Dr. Pepper without actually using any. The end product is a surprisingly smooth and tasty drink. Though many prefer the traditional cola version for guests, this Greek restaurant staple is adaptable enough to test with beer for a greater kick.

What a clever and nostalgic twist on a classic flavor! I love that the “Dirty Dr Pepper” captures the essence of Dr. Pepper without actually using it—such a fun surprise for guests. The idea of serving this in a pitcher at a summer BBQ is genius, and I appreciate the personal touch of it being your very first cocktail recipe shared. https://kissanimes.com.tr/
This Dirty Dr Pepper Cocktail is such a fun twist—love that it captures the flavor of Dr. Pepper without actually using any! The combo of amaretto and Coke is genius, and I never would’ve thought to try it with beer. https://sstiktok.com.tr/

This brings back so many memories! I remember ordering something similar at a local bar years ago and being surprised by how much it actually tasted like Dr Pepper without containing any. The amaretto and cinnamon whiskey combination is genius – it really does mimic that complex spice flavor profile.
I love that you included both single serving and pitcher measurements. The pitcher option is perfect for hosting, and you’re absolutely right about adding ice to individual glasses instead of the pitcher to prevent dilution. That’s such a pro tip!
I’m definitely trying the version without beer first – I tend to prefer cocktails that aren’t too overwhelming when entertaining guests. The idea of serving this at summer BBQs is brilliant, especially since it’s such a conversation starter when people realize there’s no actual Dr Pepper in it.
Speaking of entertaining and cocktails, I’ve been sharing some great movie night and streaming recommendations on my blog wiflixname.blog – there’s something perfect about pairing a creative cocktail like this with a cozy movie night at home. The combination of good drinks and entertainment always makes for memorable evenings.
Thanks for sharing the recipe and the video – can’t wait to surprise my friends with this at our next gathering!

This reminds me of so many things! Years ago, when I had something similar at a neighborhood bar, I was somewhat aback by how much it tasted like Dr Pepper without actually having any. The combination of amaretto and cinnamon whiskey is brilliant; it accurately captures the nuanced flavor profile of spices.
Yea, it’s kind of a fun recipe for how the ingredients to combine to evoke something so familiar that isn’t actually in the recipe! Thanks for stopping by!
I can’t imagine the combination to taste like Dr Pepper, but it looks really good!
