Astronaut Trail Mix
A healthy trail mix recipe for kids, this Astronaut Trail Mix is a great addition to a Space Unit Study – or just a fun treat for aspiring astronauts!
I participated in Mom Blog Tour Sweets and Snacks Expo (#MomBlogTourFF) on behalf of Wendy’s Bloggers. I received Moon Cheese products to facilitate my review, but my opinions and creative content are my own.
Moon Cheese Trail Mix Recipe
My daughter loves all things to do with space.
We’ve done space yoga, space sensory bins and countless space art and science projects over the years. She just cannot get enough!
So when a box of Moon Cheese arrived to our house, she quickly claimed them for her own. They are 100% cheese that has just been dehydrated to create a crunchy, cheesy snack that is super satisfying. I thought they would make a healthier substitute for less-healthy cheese snacks, but honestly – I don’t think we could go back if we wanted to!
My daughter always loves cheese and crackers, so this has been a total *Lazy Mom Win.* And because it’s pure cheese, it’s healthier than any other crunchy cheese snack – and more filling. I find just a small handful of Moon Cheese really satisfying.
Not only is Moon Cheese super satisfying and delicious, it has solved a real headache of mine – unfinished lunches.
My girl is a bit of a chatter and easily distracted, so combine that with short lunch breaks and I usually end up unpacking a half-eaten lunch at the end of the day. And typically, I have to throw it all out because even with an ice pack, everything has been in a warm backpack for 7 hours or more.
But now, at least the “Moon Cheese and crackers” can get saved for another day because they are still fresh and crunchy – and completely safe because they don’t need refrigeration. (If I send in some cut up meat, I just keep it in a small “dip” container so that it doesn’t contaminate the rest of the healthy homemade lunchable.)
I also recently brought a package of Moon Cheese on a field trip and every mom who tried it demanded to see the packaging because no one could believe it was just cheese. Ha!
My brother has been taking Ella on hikes almost every week – and let’s just say his trail mix did not pass Ella’s foodie standards.
So, we decided to make a satisfying trail mix using Moon Cheese. It’s packed with protein thanks to the Moon Cheese and cashews and supplemented with a touch of sweet, dried fruit to keep things interesting. Our recipe made almost 3 cups of trail mix, and because everything is shelf-stable, it will last for a month of hikes and outdoor adventures.
