This week, we’re bringing you all of our favorite smoothie recipes – starting with my favorite green smoothie and my daughter’s favorite pear kale smoothie. Today, we’re bringing you a fruity Wild Blueberry Green Smoothie that is a great starter green smoothie for kids who would be turned off by a green drink!

Wild Blueberry Spinach Smoothie - a delicious green smoothie without the green color, perfect for kids

Green smoothies are a phenomenal way to kick-start your day with a hefty dose of nutritional goodness.

They are one of the easiest healthy recipes to whip up – just throw everything in a blender and puree – and they are super easy for quick mornings or afternoons where you can’t be stuck at the table painstakingly watching the kids take the world’s smallest nibbles.

But by and large, the biggest impediment to getting kids to drink green smoothies is the color. Some kids don’t mind, but for the true veggie-phobes, the green color is a dead give-away that you are trying to feed them something healthy – which is why this Wild Blueberry Spinach Smoothie is the perfect starter green smoothie.

It’s got a delicious berry taste (you can’t taste any spinach) and the pretty purple color hides all trace of the leafy goodness hiding inside. I like to slowly increase the amount of spinach included in the recipe and also start adding in ingredients like chia seeds for extra health boosts.

While you can use regular blueberries (or really any berry) in this smoothie, I always have wild blueberries in the freezer because they last forever (well, two years) and pack a better antioxidant boost and more fruity flavor than normal blueberries. I add half a frozen banana for the frothy texture it gives the smoothie, but you can leave that out if your kids are not huge fans of bananas.
