Green Smoothie that Tastes Like a Peanut Butter-Banana Milkshake (with Video)
The easiest way for me to ensure that I am getting my daily required intake of vegetables is to drink them! This Green Smoothie recipe is quick to whip together in the morning and despite the fact that it has two full cups of spinach – it tastes like a Peanut Butter & Banana Milkshake!
I previously shared this recipe in my previous post with 5 delicious Peanut Butter Smoothie recipes – but it’s such a staple in my routine that I thought it deserved it’s own post – and a video!
This recipe helps you get in 3-4 fruits and vegetable servings, 2 proteins, 2 dairy servings – and you can even add additional ingredients like chia or flax seeds or protein powder to bump up the nutritional quotient even further.
But the most important thing about this recipe (to me, anyways) is that it is absolutely delicious. It is a dead ringer for those old-fashioned diner milkshakes and you cannot taste the spinach at all.
The hardest things about eating healthy for me are (1) time constraints and (2) getting bored or feeling dissatisfied with healthy options. This smoothie literally takes 2 minutes to throw together and it’s super convenient to drink while I’m driving my daughter to school or replying to e-mails in the morning. But the fact that it actually tastes like a treat helps me stick with it.
There is also something so wonderful and affirming about knowing that you’ve had two full cups of spinach first thing in the morning – it makes me more inclined to stick to healthy eating throughout the day because I’ve started the day on such a good note. I also like to make these as an afternoon pick-me-up, especially if I had a more indulgent lunch or plan to have an indulgent supper and want to feel balanced.

How to Make a Peanut Butter Green Smoothie
Really pack the spinach into your measuring cup for this recipe! I find 2 cups is the perfect amount, but you can experiment with more or less, as you prefer.
Add the peanut butter and milk before adding the greek yogurt. You can experiment with adding 1/3 cup of milk for a thicker smoothie and just add more milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.
Add the greek yogurt- preferably plain as flavored often has added sugar.
Toss in the final ingredients – half of a frozen banana (it’s okay if it’s not frozen) and as many strawberries as you like. I always add at least 2 but when I started making this smoothie I added up to a half cup.
Blend all ingredients together until smoothie, adjusting with additional fruit for sweetness or more milk for a thinner consistency. If the blender is having a hard time blending all ingredients, it needs more liquid (milk and yogurt).

Very tasty! I may have put more strawberries than I’d like because there was sort of a tang to it, but otherwise it’s actually quite delicious!
