Turtles Brownies
Another homemade Turtles dessert, these Turtles Brownies are the peak of decadence with caramel bits, chocolate chips and pecans baked right into the batter, then caramel poured into the warm, freshly baked brownies before it’s all topped up with a boiled brownie frosting and topped with even more pecans and caramel bits.
Turtles Brownie Recipe
We just keep coming at you with Turtles-inspired dessert after Turtles-inspired dessert this week, but who can blame me?
Caramel, pecans and chocolate are the perfect indulgent dessert combination and they combine together to make the ultimate brownie.
I’m usually not a fan of anything mixed into my brownies other than chocolate chips – but for these Turtles brownies, I will gladly make an exception.
We mixed chocolate chips, fresh pecans and chewy caramel bits into the batter for amazing flavor and texture. Then, while the brownies were still a little warm from the oven, I poked holes all over the brownies and poured on a generous amount of salted caramel sundae sauce. This allows the caramel to really infuse the brownies with their flavor and results in a moist, rich brownie. (Baking the caramel into the brownie can easily lead to a burnt brownie batch, so I highly recommend using this method to impart that flavor.)
I then topped it off with my favorite boiled brownie frosting. It is so incredibly easy and quick to whip up, you’ll be topping everything in sight with it!
Then, of course, we topped it with even more fresh pecans and caramel bits, just to give a hint of what flavors and textures to expect in the brownie itself.
We used a boxed brownie mix for this recipe – y’all, I can be lazy – but you can swap it out for a from-scratch batter, if desired. (You can find our homemade brownie base here.)
For this recipe, I used Millican Pecan’s Pecan Pieces. I didn’t realize what a difference there could be between pecan brands, but these are so incredibly fresh and flavorful. They also have delicious snack options like the Sweet and Spicy Pecans which are perfect for the holidays. My next order, I’m trying their Pecan Butter and the Caramel Pecan Coffee! (And by the way, this is not sponsored – I just really love them.)
