No-Sew Heart Pillow Craft for Kids (with Video)
While we love our simple sewing projects for kids, sometimes a Simple No-Sew Craft like these No-Sew Heart Pillows is perfect for a quick and easy craft session.
No Sew Pillow Craft
Ella recently had a few friends over and they all were begging to do a sewing project.
While I normally don’t mind doing sewing projects with the kids, I was just not in the mood to deal with threading sewing needles, having little sewing pins all over the place or – let’s be honest – finishing up three sewing projects once the kids decided they were bored and wanted to move on.
This super simple no-sew pillow craft was a saving grace!
We used some 9″ x 9″ fleece fabric scraps we already had on hand along with the same cotton batting that we use for all of our hand sewn plushies. You can of course make these pillows much bigger if you have more fabric to spare.
It took the girls about 20-30 minutes to make their pillows, which was the perfect amount of time to stay focused in a group setting.
This would be a great activity for a birthday party or Valentine’s Day party as long as all of the kids can tie a knot. It also is great knot-tying practice (and fine motor strength building) for younger kids, too.
If desired, you can also have the kids add additional details or embellishments to their pillows when they are done. Use fabric paints or fabric markers, or add on patches or adhesive gems.
You could even use photo transfer paper to add a picture to the center of the heart.
You can use this method of making no sew pillows to make any shape of pillow you want.

Tip: if making these in a group or for a party, I would have the hearts cut out and the fringe cut before setting out the craft for them. This will prevent fabric from being wasted and also reduce the number of good-quality scissors you need to supply.
How to Make a No Sew Heart Pillow
Cut out a heart shaped template from the white paper. Make sure to make it no bigger than 9″ x 9″ (or the size of the fabric squares you are using).
Use the template to cut out the heart shape from each piece of fleece.
Lay 2 fleece hearts on top one another and draw a smaller heart on the top heart. I drew it about 1 ½ inches smaller. This smaller drawn on heart is only to use as a guide to cut your strips so it is an optional step.
Start from an edge and cut little strips, about ½ inch wide, into the fleece hearts making sure to stop at the smaller heart you drew. Go all the way around the hearts.
Now take 2 strips that are on top each other and tie them into a tight little knot. Then move on to the next 2 strips until you’ve gone almost all the way around. Stop with about a 2-inch opening.
Stuff some pillow stuffing into the pillow until you like how full it is. Then finish tying the last few strips together.
