So, a bit of a confession: I’ve never had an Orange Julius.
There’s no real reason, I’ve just never been tempted by their ’80s style mall kiosks – especially when they stand kitty-corner to caffeinated offerings or my favorite mall treat. However, when I recently served up these Mango Vanilla Smoothies to a friend, she exclaimed it was like drinking a gourmet Orange Julius.
Somewhere between a milkshake and a smoothie, this mango vanilla smoothie is pleasantly sweet without being cloying. It’s thick and creamy with a bright mango flavor and a light vanilla touch.
My daughter has always loved mango, and it’s a more mellow, fruitier option than citrus fruits which can be a bit too acidic in recipes. You could definitely swap guava, peach, cantaloupe or papaya in it’s place.
I love this as a healthier option to ice cream or sorbet and it would be the perfect brunch drink option for the whole family to enjoy. You can also freeze this recipe in popsicle molds for a delicious treat for the kids.

The banana will make the smoothie more “frothy” and the cashew butter adds a bit more protein so adding either is personal preference.
