For our Moana Birthday Party, one of the goody gifts that all of the children received were these DIY Kakamora Coconut Cups which also served as a cute and convenient way to serve drinks at the party.

These simple DIY Kakamora Coconut Cups are the perfect way to serve beverages at a Moana Birthday Party or Moana Movie night - and they double as a cute Moana thank you gift and add to the overall party decor

Kakamora Coconut Cups Craft

One of my favorite souvenirs from our travels are some cute coconut cups that were carved to have little monkey faces on them.

They sit perched on the shelving in my dining room and served as the inspiration for this party craft. I can’t think of a better way to pretend you are on a tropical vacation than sipping out of a coconut cup. And if you’re a little Moana fan, sipping out of a Kakamora Coconut Cup is even better1

I always try to send kids home from our parties with unique goody gifts that they will actually get use out of. For our Moana party, I sent all of the girls home with Moana dresses, Heart of Tefiti necklaces and these DIY Kakamora Coconut Cups.

They also served as cute party theming while allowing us to use them as reusable drink containers, rather than burning through individual juice boxes or water bottles.

You could alternatively set this up as a party craft activity and they would also be super cute for a Moana movie night.

Tip: acrylic sealer will help preserve the design of the Kakamora faces but even with careful hand washing, they will likely eventually fade. Kids can re-paint the cups or just use them without the faces.

How to Make Kakamora Coconut Cups

Lay the coconut cup on a flat surface. You can place a rag underneath to prevent the cup from rolling around as you paint.

Using the tan paint, paint a round rectangular shape on the front of the cup to serve as the Kakamora face, as shown. Allow tan paint to dry completely.

Use a pencil to sketch on the additional facial features for your Kakamora. I looked up pictures from the movie to use as inspiration for my various designs.

Use the red/pink, white and black paint to add the facial features.

Allow paint to dry fully.

If you want to seal the design, use the acrylic paint spray, according to package directions.
