Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino Recipe

Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Frappuccinos just taste like Christmas, with their decadent and rich chocolate-coffee flavor and the perfect hint of peppermint candy. While the Starbucks version is seasonal, you can whip up these peppy peppermint frappes all year round.

I have a teenager now and Starbucks is an obsession with this age range. Her and her friends love going, but she is quickly learning how expensive it can get, so I’ve been teaching her how to make copycat Starbucks recipes at home.

While a venti from Starbucks will currently run you $7.72, you can make this easy homemade peppermint mocha frapp at home for less than 50 cents a serving!

This recipe results in a frothy, smooth and rich mocha frappuccino with just the right amount of cool and tingly peppermint. The coffee flavor takes a back seat, allowing the creamy peppermint hot cocoa to shine (just like how when you add a dash of espresso powder to brownies, it helps emphasize the chocolate flavor, the same concept applies here). It is absolutely decadent and easy enough to make whenever a craving strikes!

Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino Variations:

  • To make Starbuck’s White Mocha, use white chocolate syrup in place of the chocolate syrup and white cocoa powder in place of the sugar and cocoa powder in the recipe below.
  • Use coffee ice cubes to avoid watering down the recipe (simply freeze coffee in ice cube trays to make)
  • You can layer white chocolate syrup or peppermint syrup in your glass and as a garnish, in addition to the chocolate syrup
  • Garnish with chocolate curls by using a vegetable peeler to shave the curls off of a chocolate bar
  • Add peppermint vodka for a spiked version of this peppermint mocha
  • Use decaf coffee to keep the mocha flavor without the caffeine
  • Make it “skinny” with low-fat milk and sugar-free syrups
  • To make a hot peppermint mocha, you don’t need to do anything other than omit the ice

Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino FAQs

Pro Tip: Use instant coffee instead of regular coffee to avoid watering down the frappuccino, or make your coffee doubly as strong.

How to Make In Advance: While this recipe is best prepared just before planning to serve, you can prepare the coffee mixture (minus the ice and syrups) in advance, and then freeze in ice cube trays. When ready to make, blitz up the frozen milky coffee cubes, adding a splash of milk as needed to help it puree.

To make this recipe dairy free, use any favorite “milk” alternative and a non-dairy whipped topping.

A good studio should have adequate space, excellent lighting (both natural and artificial), and essential amenities like props, backdrops, and makeup rooms.
