Berry Apple Pie Recipe
Today’s Berry Apple Pie is perfect for a variety of fall occasions thanks to the combination of sweet apples and berries, layering seasonal produce that is both vibrant and versatile.
Whether you use our homemade pastry crust or a pre-made pie crust, the filling of juicy apples and berries, a sweet-earthy cinnamon swirl and the nuttiness of almonds is the real star of the show, with the buttery flakiness of the pie crust complementing it beautifully.
Serve warm with a drizzle of caramel or a dollop of whipped cream for a decadent treat that looks humble but absolutely steals the show. The aroma of this pie alone is a welcome treat for anyone coming in from a crisp autumn day.
Historically, fruit pies emerged in Northern Europe, becoming especially popular in colonial America due to abundant orchards and seasonal harvests. Adding berries was common when early bakers wanted to enhance flavor complexity and color, especially in late summer or early fall. This apple berry version is a nod to those traditions, updated with modern layering and a hint of almond for depth.
Celebrate seasonal fruit with this apple berry pie drizzled in caramel.
Fresh apples meet ripe berries in a recipe perfect for brunch or holiday dinners.
Apple Berry Pie Variations:
- Swap almond extract for vanilla or cardamom for a different aromatic profile.
- Use brown sugar instead of white sugar for a richer caramel undertone.
- Add finely chopped crystallized ginger to the filling for gentle spice and warmth.
- Mix berries into the filling before baking instead of scattering them on top for juicer texture throughout.
- Substitute blackberries, raspberries, or blueberries for the berry topping.
- Replace lemon juice with orange zest for extra citrus brightness.
- Stir in a handful of dried cranberries for a tart accent.
- Use brown sugar in the filling for a deeper molasses sweetness.
- Add sliced pears for even more autumn variety.

How to Make Apple Berry Pie
Prepare your filling first, simply peel and chop the apples and then mix in the remaining ingredients in a large bowl.
Let the filling sit as you prepare the crust to let the flavours settle.
If making your crust from scratch, mix the crust ingredients together with a fork or your hands.
You still want the dough to crack easily, this will not be smooth like a play dough.
Preheat oven to 400F
Assemble the pie by rolling out the pie crust and pressing into a pie plate.
Prick the crust all over with a fork and then pour in the filling.
Bake for 40 minutes, covered with tinfoil, then remove tinfoil and cook for an additional 10-20 minutes.
Sprinkle the almonds over the cooling pie and drizzle with caramel, if desired.
