Witch Dessert Recipe
Dessert trifles are so overlooked when it comes to planning party menus, but they are always such a hit and so incredibly easy to whip up.
Plus – they are super versatile. We’ve made this simple Witch’s Brew trifle a couple of times now and decorated it differently each time.
The first time, I served it in a cauldron with lots of sixlets and gum balls on top to represent a boiling cauldron. I loved the theming of the cauldron to the witch’s brew and it added a bit of drama when the first scoop was taken to reveal all of the delicious layers.
The second time we made it, we couldn’t find those matching gumballs and sixlets, so instead we used spooky ingredients that a witch may add to her brew: gummy worms, “eye of newt” edible eyeball candies, and lots of Halloween-inspired sprinkles. We also used a clear, glass trifle dish to show off the pretty layers.
You can also swap out the layers that I describe here. I used a combination of cherry pie filling, brownies, Cool Whip and pistachio pudding and it was a hit, but you could dye vanilla pudding for the same green effect (if you’re not a fan of pistachio), skip the pie filling (or use layers of fresh fruit), or use crumbled cake or lady finger cookies instead of brownies.
The most important thing to keep in mind is you just want a few layers of dessert ingredients that all taste great together, and then you want to top it all off with whatever Halloween garnishes you can find. My favorite was definitely the bubbling cauldron, but I think the worms, sprinkles and eyeball candies turned out great, too!
