A delicious jello shot recipe inspired by key lime pie. This Green Jello Shot is perfect for Christmas or St Patrick's Day - a fun party shot your guests will love

I first shared this recipe for Green Jello Shots on my friend’s blog, Amanda’s Cookin’.

Lime Pie Jello Shots Recipe

More than just a frat house or bachelorette party favorite, Jell-O shots add a bit of fun to just about any grown-up festivity.

I recently made a small tray of these for a party where the kids had plenty of dessert options – and then stealthily passed these around for the grown-ups to enjoy. They would be so fun for a football tailgate, St. Patrick’s Day party, or Mardi Gras! Really, anytime you’re having a party is a good time to bring out the Jell-O shots.

I wanted these Jell-O shots to taste like a single serve Key Lime Pie, so I used vanilla vodka and lime Jell-O to achieve that creamy, sweet flavor with just the right amount of citrusy acidity, and topped it off with Vanilla Whipped Cream to really drive the pie theme home.

However, this recipe can be modified for any “pie flavor” – vanilla vodka and lemon jello would make lemon meringue shots, vanilla or cake vodka plus strawberry jello would make strawberry pie shots, etc etc.

If you’re making these for a football party, it would be really fun to pick Jell-O colors and sprinkles/pearls to match each team’s colors. (Although if you’re a gold and black fan like me, you might have to load in the food dye!) This recipe work for my family’s commitment to the JETS though (we grew up with a statue of Joe Namath in the house) – or a Green Bay Packers fan.

I dislike when Jell-O shots are too solid, requiring a spoon or weird tongue-in-shot-glass moments, so I used equal parts boiling water and ice cold vodka. This had the pleasant side effect of making these Jell-O shots super strong, but if that’s not your thing, you can use 1/2 cup vodka and 1/2 cup ice cold water (to 1 cup boiling water). Just be sure to serve small spoons or something as the Jell-O will be quite firm.. and no one looks classy wedging their tongue to the bottom of a shot glass.

Tip: I often order my liquor from Drizly because they have a quick delivery time (sometimes within 40 minutes) and no expensive mark-ups. Purchasing from them supports local retailers, too. You can order the Vanilla Vodka needed for this recipe from them.

Tip: you can use 1/2 cup vodka and 1/2 cup cold water if you want to make these Jell-O shots a little less strong. Adding the water also makes the Jell-O more solid.
