Haunted House Cut Out Craft

Okay, so I’m not one to visit a haunted house ever (except for Disney’s Haunted Mansion) but since this is the forth haunted house craft we’ve shared on the blog, I guess it’s safe to say that I love making haunted house crafts!

My daughter is currently loving cut-out crafts so today’s haunted house cut out craft was a hit! Cut out crafts are great for working on scissors skills and dexterity, while still allowing children the freedom to design their craft and engage their creativity.

These are also great to do with a variety of ages. You may need to cut out the shapes for younger children, but they will love that their craft ends up being just as “grown up” as the older kids’ versions.

One of my favorite Halloween books is The Curious Little Witch by Lieve Baeten which features a young witch sneaking through different levels of a enchanting witches’ castle, discovering new surprises in ever room. This craft would be perfect paired with a reading of book – and kids can even add drawings of their favorite scenes to the haunted house’s windows.

This haunted house craft is so versatile. You can make the craft as shown here, or use the printable cut outs on a pretty painted canvas. Or use them to make a homemade Halloween card. Or add your own twists with Halloween sticks or additional spooky characters.

You can even use the haunted house template to make princess castles or fairy homes. (I think my daughter probably would have preferred those more than the spooky haunted house!)

Tip: for an extension to this craft, kids can paint a plain canvas with a night sky and use that for the base of their craft.

How to Make Your Haunted House Paper Craft

Choose colored craft papers for the Halloween paper craft creatures. The template includes patterns for, black cat, spider, bat, pumpkin, haunted house, spider web, creepy tree and ghost. Trace and cut out the patterns and prepare them.

You can trace the haunted house on either side, both sides look great! Trace the house on a black craft paper or cardstock paper.

Trace and cut out the creepy tree from a black cardstock paper.

Select a black and a grey paper; and cut out long strips. The length of strips should be equal but the width of any one strip should be double the width of the other one. Trace zigzag (grass) pattern on any one side of the strips and cut along the traced zigzag border.

Prepare a paper for the Halloween scene (canvas). The long side of the paper should be same as the width of the grass cutouts.

Attach the longer grass cutout on the canvas paper.

Attach the shorter grass cutout on the top of the longer grass, keeping them levelled along the straight end.

Trace and cut out window patterns from colored craft papers. Attach the window cutouts on the haunted house cutout.

Gather all the items and attach them on the canvas and have fun!

You can insert the haunted house, creepy tree and other items through the grass pockets or simply glue them on the canvas.
