It’s almost Back to School time, so I thought it would be fun to come up with some easy Disney Frozen® Lunch Box Ideas to kick off the new school year! Themed lunch boxes are such a fun way to get kids excited to eat their lunch and also remind them of how special they are!

Low-prep Disney Frozen Lunch Box Ideas for a fun Disney themed lunch box kids are going to love

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Disney. All opinions are entirely my own.

My daughter gets her slow eating from me – I often am the last one eating at family get-togethers, to the point where even my extended family doesn’t bother pretending to wait for me anymore – they just leave me at the table!

Add to that the distraction of friends and the allure of conversation (and the dreaded “20 minute lunch time”), and my packed lunches barely stand a chance to get eaten.

I’ve found a few things that help me with getting her to eat a wholesome lunch:

  • Snack-sized portions – this way she can eat the remainder of her lunch at either of her two recesses, and I think she finds it less intimidating than a large sandwich or main dish.
  • Fun themes – the discovery makes her lunch a bit more exciting and appetizing and they are a fun way to let her know that I am thinking of her. I’ll share more about this below.
  • Green Smoothie Powder – I send a scoop of this to school alongside 150mL of water and it helps get a good amount of nutrients in faster than she would be able to eat them.
  • Having Her Help – we have a “lunch making station” with pre-portioned snacks and lunch ingredients to empower her to help make and pack her lunches.

Disney Frozen Themed Lunch Box Ideas

Themed lunch boxes may seem super intimidating and time consuming but that doesn’t have to be the case!

I’m not doing crazy decorating with rice balls and seaweed, or spending hours with little tweezers perfectly arranging a pretty lunch. (How well do those stand up to kids dropping their backpacks everywhere, anyways?)

What I do is I brainstorm a fun theme that I can carry out throughout the week, and figure out a few fun touches that I can give her lunch to suggest that theme. Since I’m doing the same theme all week, I find that I can re-use the same elements in different ways throughout the week (ie, using carrots for an Olaf sandwich “nose” and also in a “melted Olaf” veggies and dip combo).

Also, I can prepare themed snack mixes or homemade treats at the beginning of the week and dole it out through the week.

These Disney Frozen-themed lunch boxes all took about 5 minutes to make and are well-balanced for a nutritious lunch you can feel good about sending to school.

While shopping for the ingredients at Meijer, I found these Disney Frozen® String Cheese in the dairy section which I just knew my daughter would love – and it had the added bonus of doing some of my themed work for me! (They also have a Colby Jack snack cheese and a few cheese products with other characters. You can see the other cheese options here, along with some fun kids’ activities.)

The Disney Frozen String Cheese is made with just four ingredients, including milk, and is a good source of calcium and protein. I love that it enhances the wholesomeness of these lunches while still being a fun snack I know my daughter will be pumped to find in her lunch box. (Plus they would be great for an after-school snack or tiding kids over on the way to an extra-curricular.)

I also thought it would be fun to add a bonus “character” to a few of the lunch boxes by drawing an Olaf on the back of some of the cheese strings. This is a super simple touch that you can do without any natural artistic ability. I even made you a step-by-step to see just how I did it.

This would also be fun for craft-loving kids to try to do! You just need your Disney Frozen String Cheese, a black permanent marker and an orange permanent marker.

Carrots would be a super easy theme-enhancer for these lunches, since they double as Sven’s favorite snack and Olaf’s nose, but my daughter will not eat carrots in her lunch. She’s fine with them at supper or even after school, but I find they always come home not eaten. I think they are just genuinely time consuming for a quick school lunch.

Rather than show you a bunch of pretty lunches with carrots, I wanted to be real and show you the lunches my daughter really will eat – including the chocolate treat I tucked into each one! (I did try carrots for one lunch at the bottom – and yup, she took a single bite out of one and the rest came back uneaten). I think above all, include items your child is going to eat in their lunch. I do find I can sometimes include one new food in these lunch boxes, but I’m more committed to her actually eating her lunch rather than making a show of including tons of pretty, healthy food she won’t eat.

We used our stainless steel Planet Box Lunch Box for all of these lunches – I love how durable it is, and it has never leaked on us!

Now, let’s get onto the lunches!

This lunch features:

  • half a cob of corn, cut in half (easier than trying to eat corn kernals – and the custodian will thank you for it)
  • tortilla cut into “snowflake” shapes with a cookie cutter
  • homemade guacamole (an avocado seasoned with a hit of lime juice, salt and pepper)
  • sugar snap peas
  • two chocolate treats
  • hand-drawn Olaf juice box
  • Disney Frozen String Cheese
