Decoupage Ornament Craft

Last year, I loaded up on plain ornaments the minute they went on sale and this year, I am having so much fun coming up with unique ways to decorate them!

This decoupage ornament craft is super easy to make with kids and a great way to use up leftover fabric scraps – something we always have plenty of now that my daughter has developed a love for sewing. You can alternatively use scraps of paper to make these ornaments – even leftover wrapping paper or tissue paper after you’re done wrapping your Christmas presents!

You just need a few basic craft supplies to make these easy DIY decoupaged ornaments and they come together super quickly. I was able to turn out 12 of these ornaments in less than 20 minutes. It’s a great way to customize your Christmas decor on a budget.

Ideas to Customize these Decoupaged Ornaments

  • add family member’s names, using paint or Cricut vinyl
  • customize the fabric colors to your Christmas decor
  • use jingle bells instead of holly to embellish
  • make a few of these ornaments into an ornament wreath

Materials for Decoupaged Christmas Ornaments

Tip: you can use scraps of paper in place of the fabric squares.

How to Make Decoupaged Ornaments

Apply the mod podge in small sections on the ornament.

Attach the fabric squares.

Repeat process until the ornament is covered. Allow to dry completely.

Apply a second coat of Mod Podge and allow to dry overnight.

If desired, apply decorative embellishment with the glue gun.

Materials

  • Round glass or plastic ornament
  • 1” fabric squares
  • Mod podge
  • Decorative embellishment, if desired

Tools

  • Foam brush
  • Glue gun

Instructions

  1. Apply the mod podge in small sections on the ornament.
