A fun Christmas take on a classic muddy buddy, this Reindeer Munch features an added chocolate touch with super cute Christmas M&Ms!

A delicious sweet party mix for Christmas, this crunchy peanut butter and chocolate "reindeer chow" is so incredibly delicious and addictive! Add Christmas M&Ms for a festive touch.

Christmas Muddy Buddy Recipe

Muddy Buddies are one of my favorite easy desserts.

We’ve made them so many different ways – the traditional chocolate chip and peanut butter mixture, using colored candy melts, and even using frosting! They always turn out delicious and they disappear way too quickly.

(And it’s such a fun recipe to make with the kids – they love pouring, mixing, and then of course, SHAKING the bag to coat the cereal. There are lots of opportunities for everyone to help equally, too.)

I ALWAYS have red and green M&Ms on hand during the holidays. They are just as essential as a Christmas tree for me, so they were a natural addition to this recipe.

And to make it extra magical? (Because, reindeers need some magic fuel…) We added some red and green sugar crystals and some snowflake sprinkles.

You can alternatively add some crushed peppermints, use melted peppermint patties to replace the chocolate chips, swap out the sprinkles, etc. Make it your own and have fun with it! You can always make another batch when this one magically disappears.

Tip: swap out the sprinkles mentioned for whatever you have on hand. You can also add crushed peppermints, or swap out the chocolate chips for peppermint patties.

Kitchen Tools You May Find Helpful

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Large ziptop bag
  • Spatula or wooden spoon <– I like these spatulas because they are one solid piece and don’t have removable heads for bacteria to get trapped underneath. Plus they are heat-resistant and have a lifetime warranty.
  • Cookie sheet

How to Make Christmas Muddy Buddies

Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.

In a large microwavable bowl, place the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter.

Heat in the microwave for 1 minute, then stir well.

Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth, as pictured.

Stir in vanilla.

Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated.

Pour the chocolate-coated cereal into a large (2-gallon) resealable food-storage plastic bag.

Add powdered sugar to the bag, and then seal and shake.

Shake until the cereal appears well coated by the powdered sugar.

Spread on waxed paper or tinfoil and sprinkles with the sugar crystals.

Allow to cool and set for 2 hours or overnight.

Mix in the M&Ms.

Store in airtight container in refrigerator.
