Perfect for a movie night, prep-ahead lunches or just an easy grab-and-go dinner, this Easy Cheeseburger Roll incorporates your favorite burger toppings into a baked pastry roll, similar to an Italian Stromboli.

Cheeseburger Roll Up Recipe/Craft
This Cheeseburger Roll Up is a modern diner classic that takes it’s inspiration from Italian Stromboli.
Stromboli is a baked, stuffed roll featuring a bread or pizza dough filled with Italian deli meats (like salami, pepperoni, capicola, etc.), mozzarella or provolone and sometimes vegetables or tomato sauce; whereas a Cheeseburger Roll is a pizza dough filled with (seasoned) ground beef, cheddar or American cheese, and classic burger toppings like pickles, onions and sometimes ketchup or mustard.
It’s an easy option for entertaining or just a family-friendly dinner, perfect for pairing with other diner classics like fries, tater tots or a creamy Caesar salad.
Plus, it’s great for meal prep – you can make this cheeseburger roll at the beginning of the week for easy additions to packed lunches, or freeze the unbaked cheeseburger roll ahead of a busy week.
I personally prefer to not incorporate any sauces into the cheeseburger roll and instead serve it with each person’s favorite burger or fry sauces to dip the roll into.

Cheeseburger Roll Variations:
- Spice it up with diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
- Add bacon for an irresistible salty element.
- Add veggies like chopped mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, bell peppers, etc.
- Use crescent dough or puff pastry in place of the pizza dough for a buttery, crispy dough.
Tip: Make sure to drain the cooked beef and all toppings well to ensure that the cheeseburger roll doesn’t get too oily or soggy.
How to store leftover cheeseburger rolls: Store the leftover, baked cheeseburger rolls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
How to freeze cheeseburger roll ups: This recipe makes 2 large cheeseburger rolls, so I tend to bake one and freeze one. Freeze the cheeseburger roll before baking and then when ready to enjoy, allow to thaw in the fridge overnight or on the counter for about an hour before proceeding with the baking instructions.
To freeze, wrap the cheeseburger roll well and store in an airtight ziptop freezer bag or your favorite freezer containers. (This set of freezer containers is a crazy bargain.) Enjoy within 2 months.

Kitchen Tools You May Find Helpful
- Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mats
- Cast Iron Skillet <– I love the versatility of a good cast-iron pan – you can make everything from eggs to dessert in them and they transition easily from the stove to the oven. This one is pre-seasoned and great for even heating
- Wooden Spoon or Spatula <– I like these spatulas because they are one solid piece and don’t have removable heads for bacteria to get trapped underneath. Plus they are heat-resistant and have a lifetime warranty.
- Cookie Sheet

How to Make Cheeseburger Rolls
Preheat oven to the temperature indicated on your pizza dough (likely 350F).
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the hamburger, breaking up clumps with a spatula every few minutes.
Season with salt, pepper and onion powder.
Drain the excess grease (if any) and then set aside.

Prepare your other cheeseburger roll ingredients, allowing the ground beef to cool slightly.
Grease a cookie sheet and place the unrolled pizza dough on the sheet.
Spread half of the cheeseburger meat over the pizza dough, avoiding the last 1-2” of dough on all sides. Top with 1 cup of cheese and half of the bacon bits, along with any other preferred toppings.

Roll one long side of the pizza dough towards the other, wrapping the meat and cheese inside. Pinch all sides closed.

Repeat with the other package of dough and remaining toppings.
Brush the top of the dough with the olive oil, if desired, and then sprinkle with the Italian seasoning.
Bake the cheeseburger rolls in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Allow to cool for a couple minutes before slicing and serving.
