Blueberries for Sal Toddler Craft
When I’m crafting, it’s often with 5 kids under 4 years old, so easy crafts that don’t require a lot of one-on-one assistance are a necessity.
This blueberry craft was inspired by a painting I did for my grandmother as a teenager. I was trying to be avant garde with a bowl outline and “suggestions” of the fruit within it. Little did I know that my teenage attempts at artistry would end up being perfect for a simple toddler craft years later!
Start this craft by reading Blueberries for Sal. Reading to your child is essential to improving language and vocabulary. Kids will love exploring with Sal as she gathers blueberries for winter, but watch out for her unexpected encounter with the wildlife!
One of the things I love about this toddler craft is how many benefits there are in one great, easy to set up activity.
First, your toddler will have to recall facts from the book. Challenging their minds to grow and create beneficial study habits for later in life. Using the Blueberries for Sal toddler craft as an extension increased understanding of he book and allows your child to demonstrate their long term memory skills.
Another great benefit of this craft is that it increases hand strength and hand grasp. Strengthening hand muscles improves handwriting!
You child will also have to listen to directions and refine their fine motor skills as they place all the blueberries in their tin pail!
To extend the learning even further, kids can count or even number all of the berries in their bowl.
For a fun twist, try using blue dot stickers instead of a blue bingo dabber.
Blueberry Craft Materials

Tip: you can swap out the blue bingo dabber with blue dot stickers.
How to Make Blueberries for Sal Toddler Craft
This is a very easy toddler craft to setup.
After reading the book, start by drawing the outline of a tin pail or bowl on the white construction paper. No artist skills needed for this one! (You can prepare this ahead of time or do it with the kids.)
Recall how Sal joined her mother in the forest to gather blueberries. Ask your child to “place all their blueberries in the pail,” just like Sal did in the story. The key to this craft is to get all the blueberries in the pail.
For an added bonus extension, count the berries in the tin pail.
