Emotionally Intelligent Kids
Honestly, if I never teach my daughter anything else, the one thing that I want to help build and instill in her is emotional intelligence and resilence.
Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the most important building block to success. No matter what other form of intelligence a person has, if they are not emotionally well-developed and balanced, they will never reach the level of personal (or professional) fulfillment that they could have if they had higher EQ.
Learning how to express and deal with emotions, learning how to deal with others and their emotions, and learning how to be resilient are my top focuses at this time. Setting up a peace corner has also been a huge help in encouraging self-regulation.
As children get older, it is also important to get them to develop a deeper knowledge of themselves, to understand their intuition and discernment, and practice empathy at greater levels.
As a psychologist, this is a topic that is near and dear to my heart and I write about it often - make sure to subscribe to my weekly newsletter to not miss out on future EQ posts. And, please, reach out to me if you have questions or concerns - or if there is a topic that you think needs to be addressed.
