If you’ve been following along on my Instagram, you know that Ella and I have been slowly making our way through the original Mary Poppins trilogy. (And now there are six books in the series!)

The original Mary Poppins movie had that fun blend of whimsy and magic wrapped up in a stern, no nonsense exterior. The movie itself captured that contrast with it’s combination of live action scenes and imposing the actors into cartoon (chalk-drawn) worlds.
I loved the original – really, anything with Julie Andrews was a favorite – and I’ve been saving watching it with Ella until we are done the books. So I’m SO excited that we’ll also be able to cap off the series with the new Mary Poppins movie – coming out December 19th!
In case you’re out of the loop a bit, Disney’s MARY POPPINS RETURNS is an all-new original musical and sequel based on the other books in the Mary Poppins series.
Mary Poppins comes back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.

How to Make Disney Cupcakes
Prepare the fondant toppers at least 4-6 hours before you plan to serve the cupcakes.
Sprinkle powdered sugar onto a cutting board and roll out the white fondant to 1/2 inch thickness.
Use the fondant cutter and cut out as many circles as you can, ideally 24.
Use the edible blue food spray and spray around the edges of the circle leaving a little bit of white in the center.
Using the black icing, pipe an umbrella into the center.
Allow to air dry for a few hours before making the cupcakes
Prepare the cupcakes according to package directions.
For the buttercream frosting, combine the butter and 3 cups of the powdered icing sugar and beat with an electric mixer for 2 minutes.
Add 2 Tablespoon of cream and vanilla, beat, and then adjust the consistency by adding more sugar or cream, as desired.
Scoop the finished frosting into a piping bag fitted with a star tip and swirl the frosting onto the cupcakes – starting in the middle, working your way out, and then swirling up and towards the center again.
Carefully but firmly place the fondant pieces into the frosting.
