We aim to eat 90% healthy, but sneaky sugars, unhealthy fats, and unnecessary sodium can make their way into even the healthiest-sounding foods.
When I first started eating healthy, I naturally went to that quintessential “health food”: the salad.
Of course, my early salads were boring, but they weren’t nearly so bad when I drenched them in salad dressing. What I didn’t know was that the amount and type of salad dressings that I was adding a whole lot of junk to my “healthy salad.”
There are healthy salad dressing options out there, but they can be pricey. This is my easy healthy recipe for a homemade apple cider vinaigrette that is affordable and yummy!
Ingredients for Homemade Apple Cider Vinaigrette
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp white wine vinegar
- 1 tsp dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1-2 teaspoon honey, to taste
- Salt & Pepper, to taste
Simply combine all of the ingredients and adjust to taste.
Store the dressing in the fridge in a sealed mason jar or re-purposed salad dressing bottle.
What I love about this recipe (other than it’s simplicity, frugality, and healthiness) is how versatile it is! You can make it more acidic, sweeter, thicker and creamier, with just a slight adjustment in your measurements.
For kids, I would increase the honey and dijon slightly to make this more of a Honey Dijon salad dressing.
Speaking of the kids, this easy healthy recipe is so simple that the kids can easily help make it. Have them help measure out all of the ingredients, pour into a small mason jar, and shake to combine! Such an easy way to get kids excited about trying salad!
This homemade apple cider salad dressing goes well on just about any salad you add it to, but I especially love it on my Roasted Red Pepper & Apple Salad.

Thanks for the recipe. I usually use Seasoned Rice Wine Vinegar…Yum! But always have Apple Cider Vinegar around so this will be a nice change.

Thanks so much for sharing this recipe! Now that spring has finally arrived, I’m transitioning from soups to salads, and would definitely prefer keeping my salads healthy with nutritional dressings!

Thank you! I’m the same – so hard to give up those filling soups for salads unless there’s a great, healthy dressing on top!

This sounds wonderful and yummy! I agree a salad needs a great dressing!

Right? Otherwise… it’s just rabbit food.

Yum! This looks so good! I am pinning this and will try this dressing out! Thanks for sharing! I wonder how long the dressing will keep in the mason jar in the fridge? It’s probably so good that I don’t need to worry about it keeping fresh for too long 😉
I would also like to invite you to join a new link up that I am co-hosting over on my blog. Your post would be a wonderful addition to the link up! Feel free to join in on the fun!

Haha, you’re exactly right — I’ve never had to wait and see how long it takes to go off! I would say maybe a month, but there’s really nothing in it that would go bad and the oil would preserve any garlic that you may be inclined to add.
I’ll be there!

I love this! Love vinaigrette! I could dip my bread here, mix some mushrooms for bread toppings or just in a salad! Thank you 😀
