Holiday Sangria

One of my favorite ways to celebrate the holidays is with cranberry wine, but for a fun holiday twist I whipped up a batch of Cranberry Sangria (first shared on my friend Amanda’s site).

A fruity blend of cranberries, oranges and with a hint of blueberry, this sangria is fruity yet tart – an unexpected alternative to a spiced mulled wine.

I got hooked on cranberry wine by my friend Matt who is the winemaker at Muskoka Lakes Winery. Where their winery is located, it’s too cold for grapes to grow so they have learned how to make wine from more hardy, local fruit such as cranberries and blueberries.

The cranberry wine is tart and crisp, while the cranberry blueberry is sweeter and fruiter, so I decided to use the best of both wines to mix up this festive holiday sangria. I always bring a bottle of either when I’m invited to a party during the holidays and my hosts are always excited to try it, if they aren’t already super fans.

You can make this delicious holiday sangria up to 3 days ahead of time, but I would avoid adding the fruit until just before serving if you don’t want your sangria to be cloudy.
