Fall Cheeseboard

I don’t know how it happened, but I somehow gave birth to a child with no sweet tooth.

While I crave cake and chocolate for dessert, my daughter is a steadfast “crackers and cheese” girl.

I decided to blow her mind recently with a cheese board and she LOVED it! So, I’m trying to break out of my sugar obsession occasionally to put creative spins on this classic.

Yum! This Fall Cheeseboard is full of so many goodies, your guests are going to love it

Before, I was a bit intimidated by cheeseboards. They look intricate, tricky, and – frankly – expensive!

What I’ve discovered is that there are a few tricks to putting together a successful cheeseboard:

  • A couple contrasting options for each category (cheese, crackers, fresh options, etc)
  • Have a “filler” – something that can be used to fill in empty space on the board
  • Think about things that will pair well with the cheeses but also include “palette cleansers” to enjoy in between bites of cheese

Also, getting the right sized cheeseboard is key! A tiny cheeseboard works for 2 or 3, or if you’re serving it alongside another dessert option, but if you’re putting it out as a party platter or an appetizer for a crowd, don’t be shy – grab a big serving platter or even a cutting board!

For today’s cheeseboard, I tried to stick to fall flavours and fun takes on Thanksgiving foods – dried cranberries for cranberry sauce, crunchy green pea snacks instead of green bean casserole, etc. These are all suggestions – feel free to be creative and swap them out based on what you’d like to snack on! (I also give some alternative suggestions below.)

Most importantly – have fun! Cheeseboards are all about creating a communal, party atmosphere and no one is going to care if it’s not perfectly balanced. Especially if you have a couple delicious cheeses on offer!

How to Assemble a Fall Cheeseboard

Bake your brie for 5-10 minutes at 350°F, loosely covered with tinfoil.

Place the baked brie in the center of your cheeseboard.

Slice a few pieces, or all, of the applewood cheddar and place on one edge of the cheeseboard.

Forming a rough triangle with the applewood cheddar at one corner, and the brie in the center, place the goat cheese on one “corner” and pile the roasted turkey on the other.

Around the brie, form small piles of the dried apricots, sweet and spicy pecans, roasted pumpkin seeds, and turkey pepperettes, forming a ring around the brie.

On the outside of the cheeseboard, place the grapes, then make two piles of the pita chips on opposite sides of the board.

Make piles with the clementine, dried peas, and cranberry nut crackers to fill out the rest of the cheeseboard.

Fill in any small spaces with the dried cranberries.
