Felt Flower Bookmark Craft
While I’m notorious for using anything as a bookmark (receipts, index cards, random post-it notes, etc) there’s something so special about using a gorgeous bookmark when reading or even saving a place in your notebook or agenda.
It makes the experience a little more enjoyable – maybe even more luxurious. It designates your reading or journalling time as something beautiful and special.
I think these felt bookmarks would be such a thoughtful gift for the voracious reader (or journal writer) in your life. We can be a tricky group to actually buy books for (if you don’t know what they’ve read already or if they have very specific preferences) so this bookmark can be given on it’s own, or it can be used to gift-wrap a book or journal.
Our flower SVG file can be used with a Cricut machine for cutting out your felt (you’ll want to use either a fine point/bonded fabric blade or a rotary blade) or you can simply print out on a printer and use as a template for hand-cutting your felt.
Also, while we used a sewing machine for our project because it’s easier when sewing through several layers of thick felt, you can hand-sew this project.

How to Make a Felt Flower Bookmark
Cutting the Felt Flower Pieces
Print off the flower pattern on a 8.5×11 sheet of paper. Each sheet consists of pattern pieces for making two felt flowers.
Working one flower at a time, cut loosely around each of the individual pattern pieces.
Place the pattern over the felt sheet and cut the felt pieces out along the solid line.
Cut each piece out in the desired felt sheet color.
Cut a piece of elastic 18” long.
Assembling the Felt Flower Bookmark
Overlap the ends of the elastic and stitch the ends together to form a large loop. Avoid twisting the elastic.
Place the joined elastic ends on top of the largest felt petal piece and stitch them together.
Stack the remaining felt petal pieces so that the largest is on the bottom rotating the direction for each layer and place the circle piece in the center.
Sandwich the stitched elastic in between.
Holding the felt pieces in place, sew straight stitch lines across the circle piece leaving the thread long. Continue sewing random vertical stitches across the circle leaving long unclipped threads.
Clip the threads on the underside and trim the top threads so they are about 1” long.
To use your felt flower bookmark, wrap the elastic around a book to hold your place.
