Coffee Filter Roses (with Video)
A fun homemade rose craft for kids, these Coffee Filter Roses are a cheap and quick craft that adds a bit of fun and whimsy using everyday household items. It’s the perfect way to use up leftover lollipops, or give them as a gift with a bit of flair.
Coffee Filter Rose Craft
Coffee filter flowers are one of my easy go-to crafts that I do with the kids when I have nothing else prepared.
I always have coffee filters and paint on hand, and we change up what we use for the stem depending on what else we have available. We’ve used sticks, popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners before, but this time I made some coffee filter roses using some leftover lollipops and I think they turned out super cute!
To make these coffee filter roses more colorful, you can have the kids paint the coffee filters before you cut the filters into swirls. It’s easier to paint them when they are flat and you prevent ruining your carefully sculpted flower.
With my younger kids, I make the roses for them with them watching (and giving me advice). Older kids with a bit more finger dexterity can make these coffee filter roses from start to finish with very little help. (Just make sure that they have the tape cut out and ready to grab before they start winding the coffee filters around the lollipop – it’s ready hard to hold the coffee filter in place as you rip off a piece of tape from the dispenser.)
For this craft, I used leftover lollipops that we weren’t planning on eating and I unwrapped them because I liked the subtle pink color of the lollipops more than the bright yellow and blue wrapping for the center of the roses. However, if you were planning on giving these Lollipop Roses as a gift, I would purchase lollipops with either a clear wrapper or a wrapper color you like for the center of the roses and leave them wrapped for sanitary reasons.

How to Make Coffee Filter Roses
Paint or dye your coffee filters, if desired. Allow to dry completely before proceeding with the craft.
Cut three coffee filters into spiral shapes, as shown in the pictures and video. Leave a semi-circle in the middle of each coffee filter to use as the flower’s base.
Take one coffee filter and place the center half-circle on the bottom of the lollipop, but at the top of the lollipop stick.
Swirl the coffee filter around the lollipop, adjusting and fanning out the frills as you go.
Tape the bottom and final edge of the coffee filter to the lollipop stick, and then repeat the process of swirling on one or two more coffee filters to achieve a full rose.
Repeat this process with all of the coffee filters and lollipops to create a bouquet of coffee filter roses.
