Healthy Blueberry Chocolate Clusters Recipe

For about a year now, my nightly routine consists of doing my nightly skincare regime followed by a half hour (minimum) of reading accompanied by a little nighttime snack platter.

Typically, my snack platter consists of a pineapple wedge, a few pretzel crackers, a small piece of cheese and a couple frozen chocolate-covered strawberries.

And while I’ll never get sick of chocolate-covered strawberries, I thought it would be fun to switch things up a bit by making some homemade chocolate-covered blueberry clusters – especially since blueberries are so affordable at this time of year!

These wholesome, healthful blueberry chocolate clusters are only 3 ingredients – 2 if you want to skip the sweet and salty element. They are naturally gluten-free and can be made dairy-free depending on the chocolate that you use.

I prefer dark chocolate for this recipe since the blueberries are already sweet enough on their own, but choose whatever you prefer.

This recipe is super easy since we don’t need to temper the chocolate – bringing it to a specific temperature to make it shelf-stable. The blueberries require this recipe be refrigerated, so we still get that hard crackle of tempered chocolate without the fuss.

If making this recipe with kids, it would be easier to make small chocolate dollops on your prepared baking sheet, add blueberries to the dollops and then drizzle with melted chocolate.

Blueberry Chocolate Clusters Variations:

  • Incorporate nuts like pistachios, cashews, etc into the mixture
  • Cover the blueberries with yogurt, freeze, then coat with chocolate for extra creaminess and protein
  • Add additional fruit to the mixture – I would suggest pomegranates or mandarin wedges
  • Use dried fruit to make these treats and give them some chewy texture
  • Drizzle with white chocolate for added decadence
  • Swap out the blueberries entirely for cherries or strawberries – classic chocolate-covered treats
  • For a spicy twist, swap out the sea salt for red chili flakes

Can I use frozen blueberries to make blueberry chocolate clusters? I don’t recommend using frozen blueberries in this recipe as the water content can cause the chocolate to seize – resulting in gritty, clumpy chocolate.

If you absolutely have to use frozen blueberries, make small chocolate dollops on your prepared baking sheet, add blueberries to the dollops and then drizzle with melted chocolate.

How to store chocolate-covered blueberry clusters: Store in the fridge up to a week, preferably with a piece of paper towel on top to absorb any moisture that the blueberries let out, replacing the paper towel if it appears damp.

Can chocolate-covered blueberries be frozen? Freeze in an airtight freezer container or ziptop freezer bag for up to a month. (This set of freezer containers is a crazy bargain.)
