Chocolate Martini
A decadent dessert cocktail for when you need a bit of indulgence, this Chocolate Martini is a gourmet take on a classic!
Chocolate Martini Recipe
Usually, if I’m having a friend over for cocktails, we tend to have one or two over the course of the night.
Gone are the days of overindulgence or pouring drink after drink – that really doesn’t appeal to me at all. I just want to chill with my friend and enjoy a great conversation over a delicious cocktail. And when you’re only having one or two – you can afford to be a little indulgent!
Now, I’ve tried other “chocolate martini” recipes and they just don’t hit the spot. I am a true chocolate lover, I want real chocolate flavor – not “chocolate flavoring.” Plus, I think a chocolate martini should be creamy – while most that I’ve tried are not.
If you want a more traditional chocolate martini recipe, you’ll just mix together 2 ounces vodka and 1 1/2 ounces crème de cacao. That will get you an opaque drink with a hint of chocolate flavor.
Now, I have two ways that you can make this cocktail – one with a homemade chocolate ganache that is just creamy and decadent beyond belief BUT it takes a little longer to prepare as the chocolate ganache needs to be made and cooled before you start mixing your cocktails; or the second way where you can combine a motley crew of different liquors to achieve your final chocolate martini.
This chocolate martini recipe is an indulgent option for a girl’s night or a boozy dessert after a heavy meal. It is everything a dessert cocktail should be and more.
Tip: I often order my liquor from Drizly because they have a quick delivery time (sometimes within 40 minutes) and no expensive mark-ups. Purchasing from them supports local retailers, too. You can order all of the alcohol needed for this recipe from them:
- Vodka and Bailey’s Irish Cream for the chocolate ganache version

How to Make Chocolate Martinis
To shave the chocolate:
Run a vegetable peeler along the side of a chocolate bar or chocolate bark. It will curl and shave the chocolate into pretty tendrils. Some will break into smaller pieces which is perfect for the edge of the glasses.
To make the chocolate ganache:
Place the chopped chocolate in a glass or ceramic bowl and set aside.
Place the half and half in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil.
Pour the heavy cream over the chopped chocolate and stir until the chocolate melts.
Let the ganache cool completely before making the chocolate martinis.
To make the Chocolate Martinis:
First, if you want that garnished edge, place the shaved chocolate in a shallow bowl big enough for the glass’s rim.
Run the rim of your glasses under water and then swirl the rims through the shaved chocolate until the chocolate sticks to the edge of the glass. Set aside.
Add 1 cup of ice to a cocktail shaker, then add 1/2 cup of the chocolate ganache, along with the vodka and Bailey’s.
Shake vigorously to blend and chill, then taste. You may want to add more Bailey’s or more ganache to your mixture.
Divide the cocktail mixture into two glasses and garnish with additional chocolate shavings.
