Green Bean Fries Recipe

Today’s crispy, crunch Green Bean Fries are a healthy side dish that are easy enough to make for weeknight meals while being tasty enough for holidays.

(I also enjoy them as a satisfying snack – and have served them as an afterschool snack along with ranch dip for the kids to get excited about eating green beans.)

Turning green beans into fries is a great way to introduce green beans to kids, or just green veggies in general.

These green bean fries are double coated for maximum crunch and simply seasoned to keep them flavorful enough for grown-ups while approachable for kids. My kids love dipping these green beans in ketchup, ranch or fancier offerings like aioli, and they are just excited to eat these as they are when I serve real fries.

Green Bean Fries Variations:

  • add more seasoning to the breading, like cayenne pepper, garlic powder, ranch seasoning, lemon pepper, etc.
  • make these green bean fries in the air fryer by baking for 5 minutes at 390F.
  • swap out the Parmesan cheese for nutritional yeast for a dairy-free version
  • you can use cornmeal or crushed cornflakes instead of Panko breadcrumbs (or even just use normal breadcrumbs, if desired)

Green Bean Fries FAQs

Can I used canned green beans to make green bean fries? Yes, but taste them first and see if you like them. I personally love fresh or frozen green beans, but can’t stand the taste of canned, so I personally would not use canned green beans to make this recipe.

How to store leftover green bean fries: These green bean fries are best enjoyed immediately after baking, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to keep them as crisp as possible.

How to make green bean fries in the air-fryer: Bake at 390F for 6-8 minutes, shaking halfway through the baking time.

Tip: for best results, use fresh green beans. It might be hard to get the same crispy results using frozen green beans, but if you need to use frozen green beans, steam them in the oven for 2 minutes before making this recipe to remove as much moisture as possible.
