Anyone else raising a mini Star Wars fan?
I’ve always loved the movies and was so pumped when Disney took over the franchise since it meant there was going to be tons of amazing merch and there would be Star Wars attractions added to the parks. I actually teared up the first time we were at Hollywood Studios and their Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular light show came on. (It’s since been replaced by a full-fledged galactic fireworks show.)
It took a little while to get Ella on board, but now she’s a bigger Star Wars fan than me! Seriously.
I decided to make up a few sets of these Darth Vader crayons as a fun “May the Forth” gift for her and her best friend, who as luck would have it, is also a mini Star Wars fan.
My friends and I. We’re raising the next generation right…
For best results, you want to use a highly pigmented crayon that isn’t too waxy. Where I live, Crayola crayons tend to go on sale super cheap whenever a new semester or school year starts so I tend to load up on a few every time. I tried one batch of block crayons using an off-brand crayon and it resulted in a thick layer of white wax at the top of the crayon, which isn’t a huge deal but that portion of the crayon won’t be able to be used for coloring.
We just store these as you would any crayon, there’s no need to store them any special way. For us, they’re in a basket in the craft room.
You can also create a marbled effect to these crayons by mixing different hues of the same color family together or mixing up different cool colors together. They should mix nicely on their own once melted, but you can also use a toothpick to carefully swirl the melted wax together, if desired.
We bought the multi-pack of the Star Wars silicone molds so we can use them to make Death Star crayons, Yoda crayons, Hans Solo in Ice crayons, etc. If you scrub out the tray really well after making the crayons, you can also use the molds to create chocolates, Jell-O, etc.
