A retro holiday classic, ready in 10 minutes with just a few everyday ingredients, this Neiman Marcus Dip (aka, Millionaire’s Dip) is a hearty and rich dip loaded with bacon, cheese, almonds and green onions. Serve at everything from game-day tailgates to holiday parties – or just enjoy as an indulgent treat with the family.

Neiman Marcus Dip is creamy from the generous base of mayonnaise, salty and smoky thanks to chopped bacon, and brightened by a hit of green onion. A sharp cheddar adds savory depth, while toasted slivered almonds give crunch and a buttery, nutty flavor. This easy party dip takes just 5 ingredients and gets better with a bit of time in the fridge.

Neiman Marcus Dip Recipe

Created by Helen Corbett in the 1950s for Neiman Marcus’ flagship Zodiac restaurant in Dallas, Texas.

Almost every famous Neiman Marcus recipe has the nickname “Millionaire” because they all have an urban legend of a guest asking for the recipe and then receiving a one million dollar charge on their bill as a result.

And to be fair, this hearty dip is just as rich as the people who shop there, but the ingredients are humble and approachable.

It’s creamy from the generous base of mayonnaise, salty and smoky thanks to chopped bacon, and brightened by a hit of green onion. A sharp cheddar adds savory depth, while toasted slivered almonds give crunch and a buttery, nutty flavor.

Some variations use half mayonnaise and half cream cheese – I have a few other variations below so you can make this recipe uniquely your own.

This easy party dip takes just 5 ingredients and gets better with a bit of time in the fridge. Make it ahead and watch it vanish within minutes of serving!

What to Serve with Neiman Marcus Dip:

  • Ritz crackers
  • Pretzels
  • Crudite (raw, cut up veggies like carrots, celery, cucumber, etc)
  • Toasted baguette slices
  • Bagel or Pita chips
  • Sturdy potato chips (like kettle chips or ruffle chips)

How does Neiman Marcus dip differ from pimento cheese? Pimento cheese is sweeter, tangier and smoother, while Millionaire’s dip is heartier, crunchier and smokier, thanks to the bacon and almonds. The ingredients differ slightly with pimento cheese including diced pimentos (sweet red peppers) and the Millionaire dip including bacon, green onions and almonds.

How to store Neiman Marcus dip: store leftover dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Stir before serving.

Should this dip be served hot or cold? Traditionally, Neiman Marcus dip is served cold, but it can be served warm to make it easier to dip.

Neiman Marcus Dip Variations:

  • Add additional seasoning like garlic powder, red pepper flakes, paprika or fresh herbs like chopped dill or parsley
  • Swap the cheddar cheese for another favorite variety like Swiss or blue cheese (or use half cheddar and half of another variety of cheese)
  • You don’t need to toast the almonds if you want to save time, but doing so adds more flavor and crunch
  • Add some heat with hot sauce
  • Swap out half of the mayonnaise for Greek yogurt for a lighter dip
  • Add 8oz of cream cheese to make this recipe even creamier (or use cream cheese for half of the mayo the recipe calls for)
  • Use chopped pecans or walnuts in place of the sliced almonds

Kitchen Tools You May Find Helpful

  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Boxed Cheese Grater
  • Cast Iron Skillet <– I love the versatility of a good cast-iron pan – you can make everything from eggs to dessert in them and they transition easily from the stove to the oven. This one is pre-seasoned and great for even heating
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Wooden Spoon or Spatula <– I like these spatulas because they are one solid piece and don’t have removable heads for bacteria to get trapped underneath. Plus they are heat-resistant and have a lifetime warranty.
