BBQ Bacon Shrimp Recipe

Bacon-wrapped shrimp is a classic party staple, combining all that is delicious and good from land and sea.

Never content to leave well enough alone, I decided to take this classic appetizer up a notch by adding a delicious dab of Kansas City BBQ sauce, making this bacon-wrapped shrimp appetizer perfect for laid-back BBQs or a fun movie night snack.

Salty and sweet with the perfect amount of umami flavor, these bite-sized appetizers are mouth-watering whether served hot or cold – but I prefer them hot. If you need to prep them in advance, you can save the last step (three minutes under the broiler) until just ready to serve. This helps crisp up (and slightly caramelize) the shrimp and bacon, and will adequately reheat it if it’s been sitting in the fridge overnight.

Serve this with extra BBQ sauce for dipping and lots of napkins!

Oh, and one final tip – this recipe doubles and triples well… and you’ll be surprised at how quickly these fly off the plate, so make more than you think you’ll need!

Ingredients for Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp

  • 1 lb. uncooked shrimp (21 to 25 count), peeled and deveined

  • 12 slices bacon, thin cut

  • 1 cup POD & BEAN™ Kansas City BBQ Sauce

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Tip: a sprinkle of lemon or lime juice will help cut the heat if you use a spicy BBQ sauce.

How to Make Bacon-wrapped Shrimp

Preheat oven to 400° F.

Place the toothpicks or skewers in a tray full of water to prevent burning when they are placed in the oven.

Arrange the bacon on a sheet tray and bake in preheated oven for 5 minutes.  Remove from oven and turn the oven up to 425° F.

Remove bacon from sheet tray and cut each slice in half.

Wipe and re-grease the cookie sheet to prevent sticking.

Take each uncooked shrimp and wrap it in a bacon half and sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Wrap the shrimp and place seam side down on the sheet tray.

Liberally brush each shrimp with POD & BEAN™ Kansas City BBQ Sauce.

Place tray in oven and cook for fifteen minutes. At the end of the fifteen minutes, increase the oven to BROIL and cook for three additional minutes.
