Unicorn Party Punch Recipe

For the last year, daughter has been deep into the unicorn obsession.

Unicorn clothing. Unicorn crafts. Unicorn costumes.

Unicorn EVERYTHING.

I know without a doubt that anything unicorn-themed will go over like gangbusters, and it’s a simple way to add a bit of magic into our days.

While we still have family movie nights every Friday, most nights are filled with extra-curriculars, crafts, and reading. (Along with all of the various practices that go along with those extra-curriculars.)

Since Ella started full-time school, it felt like reading had become less a part of our routine; I read Ella a chapter of a novel at bedtime, and picture books here and there – mostly on the weekends. I hadn’t completely dropped the ball, but we read less in the last year than I would have liked.

We recently had a three week “screen break” which was awesome and helped us reset some bad habits that had started to form over the summer (like putting on Netflix so I could enjoy my coffee without a million questions…) – and it gave us the perfect opportunity to add more reading back into our routine.

I’m loving our nights of family reading time. We read independently, and together, and sometimes Ella is inspired to do a craft or engage in some imaginative play inspired by what we’ve read.

I’ve started to make an effort to make our reading nights more special. Sometimes we go out to the backyard and light a bonfire, and some nights I prepare a special treat like these Unicorn Ice Cream Floats.

Why should movie nights have all the glory?

(By the way, does anyone know a great children’s book with a unicorn in it? I’m stumped!)

What flavor is unicorn ice cream? The beauty of this recipe is that you can customize it to your own flavor preferences! I really liked using raspberry flavor extract or birthday cake flavoring in our homemade unicorn ice cream.

How can I reduce the sugar in this ice cream float? Skip the sweetened condensed milk and just opt for colorful whipped cream. You can also opt for a sparkling water or sugar-free soda.

You can also serve the ice cream in pretty unicorn-inspired cones or these pretty ice cream cups. (We used them for our popsicle party a couple years ago.)

You can also make this recipe as a party punch – just pour the soda in a large punch bowl and top with scoops of the ice cream.

  1. I can’t see when this blog entry was made, so you may have discovered this book since then, but “Unicorn Thinks He’s Pretty Great” by Bob Shea is a a terrific book! It has a sequel now, too – “Unicorn Is Maybe Not So Great After All.”
