DIY Flavored Moonshines are all the rage right now which I’ll admit, had me a little confused. To make real moonshine requires distilling, which is illegal without very expensive permits. However, a little digging and I found out that these “DIY Moonshines” that everyone is going crazy for actually home-flavored vodkas and rums – no distilling required. So, I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon with this easy DIY Peach Pie Moonshine.

Peach Pie Moonshine Recipe

I had a quick trip to Texas last year where I was able to actually enjoy my first glass (or three) of real moonshine. If you’ve never had moonshine, it has the same agave-base as tequila, but is much more palatable. The bartender made mine into a Moonshine Mule with gingerbeer which was absolutely delicious… but potent.

It would probably be more authentic to use tequila for the base of these flavored moonshines, but everyone seems to be more interested in using high-proof vodka – and I can’t blame them!

Using vodka as the base allows these DIY Flavored Moonshines to be easily customized to just about any flavor that you can imagine! (My friend Stacey who was actually with me in Texas when I had my first moonshine recently made this Sweet Tarts Moonshine using the same method I’m describing here.)

Plus it’s a lot more affordable to buy a high-proof, decent quality vodka than to buy a high-proof, decent quality tequila – and tequila is definitely tricky if you’re planning on serving this at a party or get-together with friends. (I think we can all agree, tequila is an acquired taste.)

And like all of my favorite things in life, I had to make this DIY flavored vodka sparkle with some glitter! I simply used edible glitter usually meant for baking or candy making and added it to the finished peach vodka. When you shake the jar, you can see the glitter swirl around – it looks absolutely magical and is definitely a fun touch if you’re planning on gifting your DIY Flavored Moonshine or serving it at a party.

Tip: I often order my liquor from Drizly because they have a quick delivery time (sometimes within 40 minutes) and no expensive mark-ups. Purchasing from them supports local retailers, too. You can order the vodka and peach schnapps needed for this recipe from them.

How to Make DIY Peach Pie Moonshine

In a large pot, bring juice, peaches w/ syrup, brown sugar, and to a boil.

Reduce your heat on medium and let simmer for 20-25 minutes until reduced by half (watch it carefully so it doesn’t burn).

Remove from stove and set to the side to allow the mixture to cool to room temp.

Once at room temperature, pour the mixture through a strainer layered with cheesecloth to remove peaches and any pieces of cinnamon sticks.

Combine the peach simple syrup with peach schnapps and everclear.

Pour your moonshine into the mason jars.

Place lids on jars and allow to sit in a cool, dry place for 1 week to 1 month before enjoying.

Pour through a strainer layered with a cheesecloth to remove any impurities, if needed.

  1. You mention everclear in your instructions, but not in the ingredient list. How much? Or is the vodka substituted for the everclear?
    Thank you!

    1. You can use vodka or everclear in this recipe, I didn’t indicate it in this recipe but in my other “moonshine” recipes I instruct to use everclear if you want a strong vodka that will be used solely as a mix. Using a regular-proof vodka will give you more versatility and result in a more drinkable vodka.

  2. You say to discard the peaches and cinnamon but then you put some in the jars. Are these different ones than the ones you cooked?
