We haven’t run into that issue – I tend not to give the kids the smallest apples in the bag, but cutting the apple in half along the middle helps with any issues with disfigured/uneven apples.
Maybe granny smith or ambrosia apples? Those tend to be bigger where we live.

Any specific apple sort ? I used a gala apple and it was a bit too small and disfigured to form most of what you did . But thanks for the tutorial anyways

Hi. Really intrigued by your blog. Please let me know the alternates for demonstrating mortar and pestle in a Montessori classroom. I came up with cinnamon sticks, but that was taking a while. I found that it make take some force to cut an apple with a slicer. My kids love doing it, but they sometimes need assistance with the slicing work. You may also want to give them smaller, softer apples as a start 🙂
