DIY Picture Frame Whiteboards

We’ve been renovating our new home since before we moved in in February but the piece de resistance for me has always been my dining room.

With pretty, museum-style walls, dark hardwood and a growing gallery wall, I’ve been trying to keep that room as pretty as possible, while also keeping it functional as my office and our main crafting space.

I wanted to add some whiteboards near my desk to keep my to-do lists at hand, but I wanted something pretty that would go with the room and conventional whiteboards were not cutting it for me – so I decided to go the DIY route and make something customized to both the dining room’s colors (gold, pink and white) while also nodding to my website’s pink glitter theme. (Ever notice the cute pink glitter dinosaur that appears in the top left corner when you hover on images? You can use it to pin images from my site!)

I love the daily ritual of setting my to-do’s for the day and the feeling of accomplishment when I look over and see the strike throughs as I knock each one off, especially with back-to-school season coming up which can throw off even the most organized among us.

I also made a second set of these glitter boards for my daughter for near her desk – but let’s be honest, she’s going into grade 1 and her boards are likely just going to be filled with doodles! For older kids, though, it’s a great way to keep track of assignments, preparations for extra-curriculars, etc.

You can also use these DIY Glitter Boards to make a weekly menu board, or as Goal Trackers. You could even use it to write cute notes to your family – put it somewhere everyone can see it and add a new messages of love or inspiration to it daily.

These easy DIY Glitter Boards are simply picture frames with some glitter wrapping paper taking the place of a picture.

You can use either glass writers or whiteboard markers to add to your to-do list and then when you’re ready to start fresh, just clean off your list with a Windex.

Materials for DIY Glitter Whiteboards

  • picture frame
  • glitter wrapping paper (or scrapbook paper if using smaller frames)
  • scissors
  • pen
  • whiteboard or glass markers (we use Expo Dry Erase 2-in-1 markers and they work great)
  • Picture hanging kit or nail and hammer

How to Make DIY Glitter Boards

Remove the back from the frame, then the example photo and border mat.

Save the mat for another project and trace the example photo onto the glitter wrapping paper so you know how big to cut it to fit your frame.

Cut out the rectangle of glitter paper and place with the side you want to show down on the glass.

Replace the back of the frame and secure.

Hang the frame where you want, and start adding your to-do list.

When you’ve completed all items on your list, wipe down with WindexⓇ and start fresh!
