Today, I’m sharing a review of a product that has made running my mixed age daycare a lot easier – our Arlo Baby Smart Monitor with 1080p HD video, lullaby player, night light, rechargeable battery and air sensors.
I don’t often review products on Sugar, Spice & Glitter but this was something that’s come up quite a bit on my social media pages, especially regarding how to make nap times work with a variety of age ranges.
For 5 years, I’ve run a preschool Montessori program in my home for ages 1-4 years old, and often the one year olds start in my program still needing two naps a day for the first six months or so. Also, some kids nap longer than others and I like to keep them a bit isolated from the noisy early risers.
So, often, I have some kids with me doing an activity in one area (whether in a different room or outside) while at least one other child sleeps in a quiet room separate from us. At first, I tried to do this with just a sound-only baby monitor but things would echo, I couldn’t always decipher what the sounds meant, and I still found myself checking on the kids often, just in case.
Video Baby Monitor Review
Swapping to the Arlo Video Monitor made a huge difference mainly for the camera. I feel confident that I can check on the kids to ensure they are still sleeping – because silence isn’t always a good thing!
It also has a bunch of special features such as allowing me to loop lullabies or sounds from my phone, and I can even make special recordings – soothing stories, or have a parent record their voice to play to help the kids fall asleep. This feature makes it a great option for babysitters – or if you’re really struggling with bedtime routines and need some “back up.”
It also has night vision – so you’re not stumbling in the dark, trying to determine what that noise might have been. You can stream the video to your smart phone, tablet or even TV, so no matter where you are in the house (or yard) you can tune in and check up.
I like that it’s portable with the option of mounting, if desired. We have a couple different rooms that I use it in, so I can unplug and set it up in different rooms as needed.
It’s also cute and doesn’t act as an eyesore in the middle of the playroom with it’s cute playful Bunny Shape.
Do you have any devices that have made your life easier as a parent or caregiver? I’d love to hear your recommendations or tips! Be sure to check out the Arlo Baby Monitoring Camera website for more information on their smart baby monitor.
